Comments (90)Hi Bill, Sorry about your back. My friends gave me a "Merry Christmas" hat on Christmas Eve ... that the high wind blew off of my head after Christmas Eve communion at church, as I approached my back door. Found it in the morning ... frozen in. Slipped on ice, chopped it free with shovel, took it to the giver's house ... who took a pic of it, with ice on the peak, while it sat on my head. Later in the day, going to a friend's house for Christmas supper, slipped on glare ice while retrieving the hat to show him, fell heavily. A couple of days later, felt twinges in back, it got quite hurtful for a time when I moved in certain ways. It took about two months for it get back to normal, and during that time I'd have had a hard time getting down to pick up money, whether a penny or something more, or other thing of value, on the ground ... but, as I'm reasonably (or unreasonably) stubborn, I'd have probably found a way! Anyway, the back's almost completely back to normal now ... and I don't think that it cost me any unretrieved pennies during the ordeal (well, not really an "ordeal", unless one chooses to more or less make a mountain out of a molehill). Found a couple of pennies on the ground in the last while. By the way - how many coin slots in pay phones do you check out, for coin taking their ease therein? I haven't found any in quite a while, but find some from time to time. Once, when a couple of charities were collecting at the exit from a chain grocery ... I found two coins, in two phones ... and they got them. Don't think that I'd ever found two coins in two phones before ... or since! Good wishes for keeping our eye out for pennies! And not only hanging on to yours ... but putting them to work wisely! ole joyful...See MorePicking up Leaves
Comments (11)To answer the question, we have places we can haul them, otherwise you pay extra on the garbage service for a 90 gal cart for yard waste. It's illegal to put yard waste in the garbage here. I've never understood the bagging leaves thing. I mow them 3 or 4 times and they mulch down and do some good naturally. Or I use them to kill weeds around trees and plants rather than buy weed cloth stuff that doesn't work nearly as well. And then people go and buy fertilizer in plastic bags and put down to replace the nutrition lost by removing the leaves, and then put a plastic bag into the landfill since it can't be recycled. Go figure as they say! Kind of like driving to the mall or gym to walk around in a circle on a beautiful day....See MoreDo you use extra precautions when picking up food?
Comments (42)I have a roll of paper towels - should I need t use a hand rail or a door handle. Stored in my car. There's a rapidly dwindling supply of alcohol based sanitary wipes. Stored in my car. The small local grocery is now having people call orders in and they drop them out - this keeps us folk from handling the items IN the store. I was just there today - needed Liquid Plumbr for a stopped up sink, so figured I should order some other stuff at the same time. (Asparagus, chicken, ziplock bags, cheese). I wipe down the touchables in my car after I return to it, and when I get home I quarantine all non-perishables (or wipe the outsides down as in the case of the Liquid Plumr). Until just about a week ago, I could keep perishables in my car for a night or two but we are now getting warmer. The asparagus would be fine even now. Oh, yes, I scrub down upon house re-entry, and hit the house door handle too. For what I'm doing, since I'm raising chickens for egg production, is bringing a dozen eggs (last Friday, two dozen) over to the local community center. Donation basis. (I used to sell them, but even with selling them for the price that is usual up here, I never made a profit anyways...) Donate... I can't eat them all, and others can....See Morenippstress - zone 5 Nebraska
