Are these tiles laid straight? Bill I need your eyes please
Comments (11)We just finished re-doing our guest bath (and are about to start on our master bath). We tiled up to the ceiling, around a tub, with a decorative strip of smaller tiles all the way around the walls. My GC -- who we're using because he did such a great job when we expanded and re-did our kitchen a few years ago -- did the tiling. He's not a full-time tile guy, let alone a tile master craftsman the likes of Bill and Mongo who post here. But he knows what he's doing, he takes pride in his work, he wants to please me as the customer, and he doesn't take shortcuts to save time. I know he went a couple of days over his estimate on this job because some days there was a lot of tile cutting, but he never complained nor raced ahead just to get done. One morning I mentioned how a few of the small tiles in the listello section weren't spaced quite evenly, and in one place the variation in the tile colors didn't seem as random as elsewhere. His reply: "Yeah, I noticed that, too; I moved a few tiles around as I set them yesterday to even out the spacing, but I was going to pop a few more off and reset them this morning." These weren't problems he created; it's just the way the tiles came on the sheet -- yet he agreed that it would look better to adjust, and was going to do so on his own (and at no additional cost for his time). THAT is what I value in a good contractor! I'm sorry, sherwhy, that your contractor doesn't have similar values; we consider ourselves fortunate to have found this guy -- which is why he's slowly getting job after job to re-do most of our house! -- Eric...See MoreWould this hurt your eyes?
Comments (28)tomatofreak, are you selling your vase or is the ebay one like yours? newhomebuilder, It shows blue on my monitor. I would have taken it in a heart beat! I'd be happy to store it for you ;-) From what I see behind it I would be happy to shop your department store......... I need another chair. The two that came with the set are not living room chairs in my opinion. I like the craigslist chair but I don't like the price at all. I also found a couple of rugs but they are just barely too small. The room evolves. The carpet I have now is on the replace list. Debating what to do on that floor. I think the floor under the carpet is just the wide planks and I think they are painted gray in the middle and brown around the edge. Been a long time since I've seen them. Here is a link that might be useful: chair...See MoreWow gets in your eyes
Comments (12)Pal we had a lot of wow in our eyes, though did understand some of the reality of purchasing our victorian home. Did I notice that when you plug in a vacuum and use it that the plug receptacles are 50/50 as to if they work, and most definitely they're so worn and lose your vacuums plug will fall out constantly...in every room LOL Did I notice the number of pedestal sinks in bathrooms with no cabinetry? No, they were just sort of charming...not so much when you have to use them. How about lighting with goofy added parts? No, I think I needed to be on a ladder for that...probably good that I wasn't. Should the number of electric space heaters and extension cords strung all over the house have been a clue that it might be chilly in the winter? Neh...I just figured that the guests were whimps...turns out, not so much LOL I think if you ask the owners of many many many historic properties if wow got in their eyes...they would have to sadly admit it's not uncommon. I hope you can enjoy your temporary space's wow more than the plug issues!...See MoreI've looked at this for so long, I need new eyes (yours!)
Comments (8)Mama, I've been going back an forth on the prep sink ... not really wanting to disrupt that stretch of work space. Do you think it's a must, in this plan? As for the fridge, it will be a SZ single door, fridge over freezer. I like the bookshelves, too, and am hoping to make it a pull out to expose a hidden broom closet. (Oh, and the aisle dimensions are counter to counter.) Benjesbride, the front room will become the DR, but could always revert back to a LR for future occupants. Because of all of the windows, I'm exposed to all of my neighbors who walk or drive by -- makes it impossible to hang out in my jammies on a lazy day! I also want to keep a formal DR, so this space suits my needs well. I'm eliminating a separate LR and making it part of the K. I have a rather large FR a few steps down for overflow....See MoreSueb20
