A way bigger rug, plants, and some art (even decently framed posters) would really change this space for the better.

Carpet and drapes would be what I would have to have. Those are always the elements that bring warmth and cozy to a room and they aren't "in the way".

A definate yes to drapery. Consider the possibility of running the curtains so they open to leave the window fully, or at least 95% exposed, and pulling back to cover some of the wall space. It appears you have a bit of a city view, or at least some twinkling lights of an evening!

One idea is to move the small round table to the other side of the sofa, and put a tall plant in that corner. If not a plant, maybe a floor lamp? Having lamp lighting in a room gives a very cozy feel. :)

The part of the room that is the most “uncozy” is the wall color. It’s so dreary.

1. A big colorful piece of art behind the sofa, or a framed poster. Art.com has some great inexpensive ones.

2. A much larger rug.

3. Curtains/drapes that go the length and width of your window in a coordinating color of your rug.

4. A tall plant in the corner of the TV wall.

5. A much taller lamp on the table in the corner.

6. A floor lamp beside the couch on the non window wall OR a table with a lamp.

7. A coffee table in stead of a footstool in front of couch.

I agree-large rug with some warmer colors, artwork for over the sofa, a plant, and drapes for the wall. What is your budget for new accessories? Do you have an IKEA near you?

Agree with above. If not drapes then bamboo shade for texture. Floor lamp for height and texture. Larger rug to anchor the space. Two small nesting tables other side of sofa. Larger coffee table in your style of preference. Add color in wall artwork. Plant in right corner. Nice view you have there. Start with rug and build from there. . Painting walls is also a miracle worker on a budget if you are open to this. Happy Designing.

My budget is Ikea priced accessories, and whatever I find on craigslist or goodwill. Trying to get thrifty!

Great ideas above. Also, when you get the budget, switch out the sofa for one with arms. Sofas without arms are never cozy. I also prefer sofas that are not on stick legs. The ones with thicker stubby feet and upholstered in a soft fabric have a more cozy look. I realize that is too big of an expense right now, but something to think about for a future time. Ikea has them. Also sometimes Craig’s List has finds though you have to choose carefully - for example people moving and not wanting to move their sofa so are selling at bargain price on Craig’s List.

yes it would be a good size, I think. I think the larger one may be too large.
