Herringbone floor pattern--varied color tile/ grout size?
Comments (3)Bill, I was hoping that you would respond! Thank you. But I am confused. I don't really have my heart set on any particular size tile. The only reason I am thinking about cutting the pieces smaller is because of the dramatic difference in the color of the tile (which is a limestone). I thought mixing up smaller pieces of tile would work better in making the stone color variation less dramatic. Is that true? So given that my tile can be anything (unless you think it should match my 3 x 6 shower tile), do you think a herringbone pattern works better with tight or wider grout? Also, the "seagrass" (that's what Walker Zanger calls it, although we got a less expensive version somewhere else--may be that's why we got such a mixed lot!), is a limestone, that came in a 12 x 12. Since it is a natural stone, it has very straight cut edges. When my tiler cut it in half (to make the 12 x 6 that I was originally planning to use) I could not tell the difference between the edge he cut and the factory edge. But I am a novice homebuilder. Am I missing something? BTW, the really sharp edges I thought would allow me to make the grout lines tighter. (I just don't know if that looks better for the herringbone pattern.) Thanks!...See MoreWhat size tile for a herringbone pattern in entryway?
Comments (4)try a 4x16, 5x15, 5x18, 4x20, size tile. these will give you 1 1/2- 2 V's. remove your baseboard. when you get to the closet, just follow the design layout and take the pattern into the closet (that way you won't have any cuts showing under the door) just for a visual, these are prob 4x16 bring home a box of that size and lay it out to see if you like the size. you could go up to a 6x18, but I wouldn't do any larger, otherwise it looks like this. and if you like this, then do this size and turn the tiles in this direction....See MoreBlack 12x24 Tile Laid in Herringbone Pattern
Comments (13)Thanks so much everyone! You all are so helpful! Just thought the herringbone pointing in the house would be good, and this tile only comes in 4x12 and 12x24 and I thought 4x12 would be too small and busy. Agree? As an alternative, could use the following tile: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bogtyfclb-x/ https://www.tileshop.com/products/cassettone-black-mosaic-porcelain-wall-and-floor-tile-667724 Think 4x12 laid in herringbone or this other black/white mosaic would work much better? Thank you!!!...See MoreHelp with floor tile for herringbone pattern in master bath
Comments (17)I think a lot of people use larger tiles (e.g., 12 x 24) cut down for herringbone. That said, I'm going for the same effect, and I found this one: https://www.flooranddecor.com/porcelain-tile/dimarmi-bianco-stone-look-porcelain-tile-100434638.html I didn't want real marble because this will be the laundry/mudroom that the dog will run through when she comes in the doggie door. I made an attempt to lay it out herringbone-style on the floor of the store to see how it would look: Here is my inspiration, but this is real marble: Good luck!...See MoreHillside House
