Pot rack over island?
Comments (17)I love mine, unequivocally. That said, it's probably because mine is stationed over the end of my peninsula, not in the center of the room over an island, and doesn't interfere with lighting or sight-lines at all. While at the stove, I can just reach over and grab one with my left hand. I think proximity to the stove is pretty key for keeping it functional rather than decorative. Unlike Marcolo's pic, ours can be hung with their backs to the wall, so if the sight of a naked used pan bottom offends you, that's one solution for the more prudish among us. I'm also not sure why some people report layers of heavy grease/dust on theirs -- we don't have layers of grease anywhere on our kitchen surfaces (??). We just hang the pots/pans we use regularly, and none of them stays unused long enough to gather dust. I do give the potrack bar itself a swipe whenever I'm wiping down the cabinets. LOVE ours, and REALLY love not having to stoop to pull a drawer out to lift up a pan -- we use a lot of cast iron, and these suckers can be heavy. Much easier just to swing it down to the stovetop when needed. YMMV....See MorePot rack wall??
Comments (21)Snout, I don't have hanging pots, but I do keep pots and pans in their own drawers and have a separate drawer for lids. It's not ideal, as I now think I'd like to have them organized a bit, like standing up, similar to tray storage, but my drawer isn't tall enough for that....So they just sort of nest/stack...Glass lids in front, all-metal lids behind....See MoreTell me about Pot Racks
Comments (7)I made my own bar-style rack from copper barstock -- I had some left over from making my copper countertops, but you can find it relatively cheap online or at local metalworking shops, eBay, etc. I just lopped off a few feet of the bar, drilled holes in each end, sanded it smooth and used high-strength stainless-steel eye hooks to hold it up. You could use chain or just more hooks to hold the bar, depending on how high or low you'd like it to hang. The whole schmear costs something like $40 including copper bar. This works great with my shaker cabinets, and there are lots of places to buy the hooks online -- I warmly recommend getting the kind of hooks that are enclosed at one end, so they can't slide off the bar no matter what. Comments (49)I don’t like the typical crowded, “ inspo” type pot rack photos- both from clutter and practical, as for me there would be lots “ out” that I’m not using every couple of days, and I thing would get dust/ grease. I could easily see hanging 1 or 2 that I use nearly every day or at least twice a week. But I prefer using my range warming drawer for 2-3 skillets, and a drawer form 4 most used smallish pots. The thing I think is important is to MEASURE your cookware and think how best to use different storage options. Skillet with handle may be near 20”. If on a wall above counter, will it hang low and impede counter use of cleaning? And how much linear wall space, which maybe cone used otherwise? If keeping wall above counter free of cabinets, do pots confound the look? I could see that being ok because pots & pans are shallower depth. Or maybe you have a strip of open full height wall that is a good target , again because generally floor space is still open and cookware may be pretty shallow so doesn’t crowd a walking zone. Or is there an ok cabinet storage place for large skillets, but you’d like a few small pots handy? Do you plan to keep utensils out on the counter? So, just be noodling on your options for open vs closed storage, priority of use, or balancing ease of access with enough “ pretty” and openness . Not for a “ show kitchen”, but for what makes you feel inspired and happy to be working in your kitchen....See MoreRelated Professionals
