Crown moulding in the master bathroom?
Comments (9)That's a beautiful ceiling. A couple I know bought a tract house in the development one over from mine. From the research I've done, the homes in their development were about $5000 more than the ones in my neighborhood (in the late 1950's), which was quite a bit of money back then. The homes have a little more sq. ft, little bigger yard and some nicer details. What caught my eye when I first saw the place was the rather simple (in detail) but larger crown moulding in the combined living room/formal dining room. It looks something like the below picture, although a little wider and they have regular, small, stained oak trim around the doorways. My friends' crown 'trim' was on-site fabricated in plaster when the house was built. Talk about a level of craftsmanship that is very rare these days. Comments (8)Sure, you people may all have crown in your bathroms, but do you chair rail like I have in my powder room? LOL I gotta say, it's a very dinky powder room on the first floor which makes the chair rail look that much more comical. We're re-doing the powder room along with the kitchen reno, so the chair rail will be coming out. Honestly, I should take some photos of this horrific space just so that I have evidence that it ever existed :)...See MoreHoisting Time! All for This Leather Chair!
Comments (30)Thanks everyone. EG3d, the problem is the stairs (below). The only way to fix that problem would be to put an elevator in the stairwell and remove the stairs. But this chair was more of a hassle than anything else I've had to move because it was too big to get through the doorway between the kitchen and dining room and too big to get through the doorway from the kitchen to the patio (which is where it would have to get to in order to be brought in through the bathroom window). So that's why they had to go over the house from the front and drop it down the back. They do this all of the time in the city because of how these houses are. Because it's historic, you're not allowed to change the front at all, and because I'm a traditionalist and do not want to mess with my house too much, I would never get rid of the stairs....See MoreBathroom Molding Issue - Need Help!
Comments (6)Wherever you want to stop the wainscot, the end of the chair rail should be mitered and returned. Here's how you do that. 1. You cut the end of the chair rail at a 45 degree angle just as if you were going around a corner. 2. You cut a piece of scrap chair rail at a opposite 45 degree angle starting at the inside corner. One side or the triangle should be the outside face of the scrap chair molding. It will be the exact thickness of your chair molding. 3. Now you can glue your piece onto the end of the chair molding and clamp with tape or spring clamps till the glue dries. This will give your chair rail a finished look on the ends. You can probably find a picture of this if you google "mitered and returned molding"....See Morefunctionthenlook
