Miele W4840 Flaw
Comments (40)@livebetter - I have noticed that my detergent drawer is sometimes slightly open by the end of a wash cycle. It's pushed out slightly less than 1/4 inch (5cm) and it generally happens with a HOT wash, but it does not happen every time. I probably need to call and have this checked. - - - As for the water running out (re: OP), eh, it's a design flaw, end of story. It happens. I once had a first generation Volvo XC70 wagon that had terrible design flaw with it's roof rack; completely useless accessory, but I digress. When it rained heavily and the door or window opened, rain poured right in. Discovered it at a McDonald's drive-in during a downpour. Just by looking at it, I could see where the design flaw existed. Dealer replaced the roof rack to the Euro style and it never happened again. The replacement rack was also utilitarian, which was nice....See MoreHelp! Miele 4800 problem.
Comments (13)Texas Fire, Early on Miele had several issues with the original W 48XX series regarding the door latch and sagging door. A retrofit kit was released help address these issues by Miele that included a new latch/switch assembly. Can you please tell me whether your door latch looks like the following? Please comment on both the chrome catch end shape, and the roller receiver. Your wife slamming the door would have no bearing on the switch assembly longevity. Miele did several modifications over the course of this model series to improve the latch and door....See MoreMiele Washer W3037 versus W3038?
Comments (19)Will surely communicate what I find. My machine is totally different than yours. It has no separate rinse cycle so it was really important to get cycles and soap right or else my washes would take 3 hours each. One with soap; one without. In England there is a website comparable to Consumer Reports that tests appliances, Which? One thing I love about their testing is they include "rinsing" in the metrics. Considering reduced water levels, you'd think our reviews would cover that. I, too, do not care for scented detergent so Tide was a non-starter for me -- no matter how good Consumer Reports and Good Housekeeping think it is. And, the idea of optical whiteners gives me the creeps. I picture those Febreeze commercials with people loving the scent of the garbage heaps. The irony is that despite hard water (12 german grains), I use very little detergent (7th Generation Free & Clear powder and liquid and Ecover bleach). But my on-board heater works exactly as advertised so I get warm water rinses and the Miele service technician programed the machine to use the highest water levels available. I don't know what I'd do without a heated Delicates because that cleans my intimates. Your cheat sheet reflects what I have found regarding agitation levels. VERY different for different cycles. I RARELY use the Custom cycle because the agitation is robust. Can you imagine if we truly had the ability to control these machines? Set temperature -- and rely on the on-board heater to ensure it -- set agitation level, set water level, set duration, set number of rinses? Then all we'd need -- just like the old days -- would be a chemistry cheat sheet that reminded us which stains need a cool prewash and which need hot. Sigh...See MoreCall to Electrolux/Kenmore "Compact" Owners
Comments (139)First, the compact Electrolux washer does, in fact, have an onboard heater. But no temperatures are specified for hot, warm, cold or what they call "eco cold." A chart shows which water temperatures operate on which cycles. Many are preset. There is a setting for the washer to what appears to be a profile wash which I define as a cold prewash followed by a specific temperature set main wash plus 3 rinses. I have a Miele Euro size machine -- essentially a compact. I do a set of king sheets weekly. It also does a king quilted (but not thick) blanket cover/bedspread. It will do a king blanket. However, very heavy bath sheets (800-850 g) were problemmatic. I did only 2 at a time because they become super heavy when saturated with water. I've had trouble with the spin washing these. One reason I went to lighter weight (500 g) bath sheets and towels. No issues on washing those at all. They don't strain the machine. The Miele does have definitions for the various water temperatures and my tests have shown them to be very accurate. However, it has a hot and cold fill vs the 240 v previous Miele which was cold-water fill only. My previous Asko compact was 240v and cold-water fill only. When the controller board went I got only cold washes vs the Miele when the heater broke I got very warm washes just not hot or sanitize. Both unfortunate but essentially explains how the difference in the fill affects the machine. For most of my loads the machine size is perfect. As someone said upthread, for 2-4 people and someone who sorts it's just fine....See MoreRelated Professionals
