Does this look OK to you?
Comments (13)Franknjim, I only grow in pots and I don't cut scapes. My risk is significantly less than you guys who grow them in the ground. Besides, I can't resist a bargain occasionally. AND, they're like puppies, if I don't take them, who will? Also, I don't recall anyone who has mentioned getting a diseased plant from Lowe's. I understand the concern for buying bare root, boxed plants from the Netherlands that are sold at Sam's and Costco. But most all the plants at the major stores come from major vendors like Q & Z and Walters. They're grown out in pots and sold the next season. That's the same sources the specialty hosta growers use. Lowe's is not buying from backyard growers. It would take a major, licensed nursery to grow enough plants for Lowe's. Major, licensed nurseries hire trained horticulturists to oversee their operations. I would be more concerned with where some of the local nurseries are getting their stock. They're the ones more likely to be buying from a backyard grower. Besides, it was there. I didn't have to wait for someone to mail it to me. bkay...See MoreDoes this layout look ok?
Comments (21)Good morning, I emailed the architect and he said he was always for keeping the door but ultimately it's my decision. According to him, it wouldn't add much additional expense to remove that door and put a window there, if that's what we wanted. So, that's a relief. He thought the flow was good as is. I bet he probably doesn't do a lot of the cooking ( or cleaning) in his family. I can't imagine being jammed up in that corner loading the dishwasher. The door , we were going to replace the existing door with, would have probably been a full panel of glass for more light in the kitchen. Not a good combination with a dishwasher behind it. Now, I just have to get my dh on board! Garden window ( behind sink) in door mode- I don't think this would be possible as right outside our sliding doors ( in breakfast room) is a raised stone patio. The stairs leading down to the side yard and beyond are almost directly under this window. Also, turning the window (to the right of the range) a door is also impossible as the outside stairs leading to the basement are almost right underneath. It would have been a great idea to turn that area into a mudroom of sorts. Measurements- the only measurements not listed on the layout above, I think, are the two window measurements ( flanking the range) and aisle widths. Those windows are 28" wide by 39.5" high. The aisle widths are 3ft 6", if I recall correctly. The kitchen is on the west side of the house so we get direct sun as it's setting. Please, if there is anything I left out, ask away! Thank you very much for taking time out of your day to help me. Best, DAC PS I just edited this post to include a response to a question about a windows possibly becoming doors posed by ttbl123. Comments (7)Not a sign of distress......that's just how it grows :-) Hydrangeas are caning shrubs, not trees, and are carefully trained into a tree-like form by removing lower branches. Those are just the starts of new branching and you do want to remove if you wish to maintain the plant as a 'tree'. Don't "chop" off - rub them off with your fingers while still very new and young. This leaves no stubs or scarring and tends to limit any regrowth in that area....See MoreOk my Hydrangea friends ... i’m looking at a new web page...
Comments (3)Yes, I have been getting these oddly formatted pages, a la Houzz, but not a la Gardenweb, for a while. The main menu listing all forums now drives me up the wall. I suspect they are trying to make all the GW pages like the Houzz pages, don't you think? They are poorly designed. Like I care to know who the top commenters are??? What's that all about? Hmmm, I have no use for that. Instead, how about some way to see if someone is logged on but.... top commentators??? Odd. Then they got rid of related forum links that used to be where those commentator names are. Then the main list of forums is now in random order instead of alphabetical so good luck finding something fast. Their 'Your Topics' in each individual forum page section seems to be an attempt to fix that problem but it 'learns' depending on what forums you go to (I am guessing). I hope that does not mean it forgets if I stop to visit a forum for a while. But it would be best to let me delete the entries or add them. The individual forum pages now extend further downwards automatically if you scroll to the bottom.... makes the bottom automatically "add" more posts at the bottom ad infinitum... just scroll down and-or hover the cursor there. Of course, it makes me wonder if there is anything at the real true end of each forum page because I tried... finding what is at the "real" bottom.... by scrolling down and down and down and down looking maybe for links for help? contact? about? but I saw nothing but more posts. Ha! They should have left "well working" and "useful" alone....See Moreluis_pr
