Colonel Vindman was fired today.

jerzeegirl (FL zone 9B)(9b)

NEWS via LTC Vindman’s atty: “Today, Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman was escorted out of the White House where he has dutifully served his country and his President. He does so having spoken publicly once, and only pursuant to a subpoena from the United States Congress.”

He was escorted out the door.

The true patriot goes and the false one is still president.

We need to take back our country.

Mnuchin turns over Hunter Bidens financials to GOP but won’t turn over Trump’s with a subpoena. How does Barr figure into that?

Trump is eliminating anyone who is not complicit. No oversight, no accountability.

From Seth Abramson earlier today (before Vindman news) on Susan Collins:

Possibly the most feckless senator in U.S. history, whose signature move is wagging her finger helplessly at a president who considers her irrelevant except when he needs to cover up a crime

Collins says it would not be appropriate for Trump to retaliate against impeachment witnesses http://hill.cm/8OiMFbN

I sincerely hope I'm not the only one who is terrified by Trump's continued push to take over the government and to eliminate anyone who might possibly stand in his way. I keep hoping that the time will finally come when Trump's followers can see that he is dismantling our democracy, bit by bit, before it's too late. What he has done to Colonel Vindeman and his brother is shameful and corrupt.

Beware! Fact bombs ahead!

The leaks coming out of the Trump WH have often been linked back to people in the NSC and many times it was due to foreign policy. These bureaucrats have come to believe they are in control of foreign policy not the president. They despised his America First agenda and retrenched as Obama loyalists, as holdovers from his bloated administration.

One holdover was found out to be responsible for the leaks was a named Ciaramella-- known now to be the alleged 'whistleblower'. He was assigned as an aide to the NSC under Obama. Ciaramella left his National Security Council posting in the White House’s West Wing in mid-2017 amid concerns about negative leaks to the media. Previously he served as an aide to Joe Biden at the White House.

He's now at Langley.

Now, onto Grace and Misko.

Abigail Grace worked at the NSC from 2016 to 2018 in U.S.-China relations. Schiff tapped her this February to work as an Intelligence Committee staffer to help investigate the Trump White House. The other is Sean Misko, worked as an NSC aide until 2017. He was also part of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's policy planning staff under Deputy Chief of Staff Jake Sullivan. He joined Schiff's team as a staffer in August, the same month the whistleblower filed his complaint. Ciramella and Misko are buddies. Was it Abigail Grace from Schiff's staff that got in contact with Yovanovitch using her personal email who asked her about a “time-sensitive” and “delicate issue” a month before the so-called whistleblower’s complaint was filed ? Inquiring minds would like to know. You see it was revealed this week that Republicans on the intel committee requested to call several witnesses willing to testify that Yovanovitch was very anti-Trump on his foreign policy but Shifty denied them.

Back to Vindman.

He too was an Obama holdover. During the House hearing in cross examination the Republicans were able to show that it was a real possibility that Vindman leaked the call to Ciaramella. It was very telling in the way Shiffty responded. It is very telling that Shiffty hired the friend of the so called whistleblower, Misko the same day that the so called whistleblower filed his complaint. It is also very telling that the whistleblower hired an attorney that has set up shop in DC advertising for people that could help take down Trump.

Personally-and I've said this numerous times before- I think the biggest mistake of the Trump administration made was not to purge any Obama leftovers in the NSC and ambassadors at the State Department. Obama purged all of Bush's ambassadors. Apparently the purge has FINALLY begun and Vindman can now report for duty wearing his uniform at the DOD instead of the suit he wore daily at the WH. My goodness he has had little time wearing his uniform the past 3 years except when he gives testimony on behalf of Adam Schiff.

Then he's all Mr. Uniform Call Me COLONEL.

That's sarcasm, right?

Wait until he gets to Romney. I;m not kidding when I say that he will be searching for and destroying anyone who has crossed him, I don't mean just during the impeachment hearings but I mean everyone and everything (any of the US states) that has dared to cross him in the last three years. This is what he lives for and he has no compunction about destroying people as bullies are want to do.

He will be handing out pardons, Medals of Freedom, patronages, pay-to-play opportunities. this is a man on a mission and not one single person will step up to stop him.

My sincerest hope is that he leaves the allies out of his mission but I won;t hold my breath.

Remember his quote "You know what else they say about my people? The polls, they say I have the most loyal people. Did you ever see that? Where I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters, okay? It’s like incredible," Trump said.

and his lawyer supported that comment? Well, folks, we're on 5th Avenue.

What's unfair here? It sounds like Vindman will likely be reassigned back to the Pentagon.

"We welcome back all of our service members wherever they served to any assignment they're given," Esper told reporters Friday. "[A]s I said, we protect all of our persons, service members from retribution or anything like that. We have already addressed that in policy and other means."

So, if, for example, Trump takes a fancy to developing hafnium bombs (this was a real thing, by the way, back in the Bush administration), none of his advisors should tell him it's a bunch of malarkey -- just nod and get on it? My hope is that his advisors would actually KNOW something, which is increasingly becoming NOT the case in this administration -- experts are instead being replaced with kowtowing idiots.

No, Nancy, because we expect our presidents to do their best to deliver on the promises they ran on. We expect our presidents to be effective in their leadership.

If people in the White House are working against Trump, and Trump is working to bring about the policies I agree with, then of course I support their firing or reassignment to other positions.

If Trump allows people to stop him from doing what he was elected to do, what I voted for him to do, then he's not doing his job.

HU88, unelected bureaucrats in any government agency should know that their experience doesn't mean they get to make decisions that elected presidents disagree with. It's their job to present their viewpoints, and their best advice. It's not their job to overrule a president, because the president was elected by the people. The bureaucrats were not.

If we lose sight of that very basic and important fact, what's the point of having elections?

Vindman did not make one single decision in opposition to trump.

Cattlyes, the National Security Council helps the President consider matters of national security, military, and foreign policy. The function of the NSC is to advise and assist the President on policies.

Vindman testified that he believed the investigation into the Bidens and Burisma would be interpreted as a partisan play. He disagreed with Trump's decision to ask for the investigation. He thought the request was inappropriate, and he notified a member of the intelligence community, and George Kent. He testified that he told Sondland that he thought it was inappropriate. He did those things before he was subpoenaed to testify, and he had the right to do those things.

We can even set aside Vindman's motivations for taking those steps, if you'd like. It doesn't change this:

All of those things indicate clearly that he disagreed with a foreign policy decision made by the President.

Why should President Trump keep Vindman on the NSC, when it's clear that Vindman disagreed with him? Why would any President keep someone on the NSC who disagreed with his policy?

After Trump's rant at the Prayer Breakfast, linking Divine Providence with Trump, well, I'm waiting for the lightning bolt.

This is a man of the lowest character — and his partisans cheer. The Post identified more than 30 distortions in his State of the Union address Tuesday, where he announced he would award the nation’s highest civilian honor to a man who joined Trump in spreading the “birther” libel and who popularized the tune “Barack the Magic Negro” for his millions of listeners.

“See, these Obama loyalist, progressive Leftists were banking on Trump being removed from office

That’s news. I thought literally NO ONE expected Trump to be removed.

Got any source, quote, evidence for that claim?

So far in this thread it’s been alleged that Vindman broke the chain of command (illegal) and exposed national secrets (illegal).

Certainly the court martial is coming soon?

No? Just a new post?

That doesn’t sound appropriate given the very serious crimes he committed. /s

Also, this thread has not addressed the parallel firing of LTC Yevgeny Vindman. If it wasn't an act of retribution then why was he fired?

If Trump doesn't (value, agree with, trust, whatever) the advice of one Vindman, why on earth would he retain the guy's twin brother in the NSC as well?

You guys can yell "retribution" all you like; Trump has the right to remove people he doesn't feel will work well with him. I'd do the same thing, in a heartbeat. Go Trump.

Barr is covering for Trump along with the GOP who are scared of Trump. We will see a lot of inequities and maybe even outright lawlessness from the GOP from now til Nov. starting with Mnuchin turning over Hunter Bidens financials to the GOP in a hot minute. He still refuses to honor subpoena for Trumps taxes.

At the SOTU, the nation's highest civilian honor was NOT awarded to the man who served his country with honor, Charles McGee, but instead was awarded to a shock jock ... republicans sure do like their celebrities. Heck they put two in the people's house.

Trump is totally unchecked now. A President with no boundaries, no checks and balances. Left to do whatever he wants. That is not what what was intended but it is what you have.....and apparently what many want.

Because every person deserves to be evaluated based on their own merits, not those of their brother or anyone else. Even if they are twins.

The FOX/ Trump supporter argument is that he has the right to do it. That's the darn problem...he has the right to do whatever he wants and nobody has the right to challenge him.

Why is Col. Vindman a traitor?

Who is limiting IMPOTUS' power?
If there are no limits, he is by definition a dictator.

Anyone know what Vindman's injury was? Maybe his memory was injured:

Rep. Jim Himes asked Vindman, who appeared to the hearings on Tuesday wearing his military uniform, to explain some of his medals. Vindman said he received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Iraq.

“In 2014, in the ramp up to probably the largest urban operation in decades, outside of Fallujah, we were conducting a reconnaissance patrol in conjunction with the Marines, and my vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device that penetrated the armor,” Vindman revealed...UPDATE: Vindman misspoke about the year he was injured. He was wounded by an improvised explosive device while in Iraq in October 2004 but served the rest of the deployment.

So Trump fired Vindman because Vindman did not agree with his Ukranian policy. That policy is...anti-corruption? So, Vindman wanted corruption in Ukraine? And his brother was also an advocate of Ukraine corruption?

Sure.

The Vindmans were rogue officials.

The Vindmans were leakers and moles.

The Vindmans needed to go.

Leakers need to be shown the door.

The Vindmans and Sondland need to move the heck on.

It's a privilege to work in the White House.

It's the president's prerogative to choose who he has around him.

Now watch the Dems looking for their next hoaxes.

History rhyming? Well, trump isn't this ruthless...yet. He's doing this on a much much smaller scale. But now that there are no more checks and balances on his presidency, I expect he will do more. The gop know it and are doing nothing to stop it. I suspect they both embrace the power it gives them and fear the retaliation if they don't support him.

Upon Stalin’s rise to power, some members of the former Bolshevik party began to question his authority. By the mid-1930s, Stalin believed anyone with ties to the Bolsheviks or Lenin’s government was a threat to his leadership and needed to go.

The hypocrisy runs rampant in this thread.

  • dumping on vindman for 'leaking classified info' while trump using unsecured phones, private servers, open air strategy meetings at mar-a-lago, handing out security clearances to the unqualifed like they're candy, and turning over all security at the US embassy in moscow to putin's ex kgb bud are all fine and dandy
  • picking on vindman for misspeaking the date of his injury under a long and arduous testimony is reason to be ousted, but trump "misspeaking" 15,000 times is all fine and dandy
  • making claims that it's all these obama appointees who are infiltrating the trump administration who are leaking when most of the sources are trump appointees in the trump administration. Administrations have used 'leaks' to the press forever for their own political purposes. People have been around in largely nonpartisan positions for decades working for both dem and gop presidents can do what's best for the nation by respecting the oaths they've taken to serve the country and the Constitution, not the president. If they blow whistles or speak truth to power, it is in service of that oath. But trumplicans, like the servants of all dictators or mobsters who enjoy the benefits they receive personally and respond to fears of retribution for disloyalty, are happy to point fingers at those who disagree with them, even their own neighbors and friends. From the kgb to the nkvd to the dprk to even the mccarthy era in the US, we have seen this time and time again.

It doesn't matter. Anyone who speaks against Trump, even while telling the truth under oath, will be punished and his supporters are perfectly fine with it. In fact defend it and celebrate it.

Perfectly fine with having a President with unchecked authority and nothing is going to change their minds....nothing.

I did not say that Trump had to follow Vindman's orders. That's a strawman argument if I ever saw one.

Vindman may have thought Trump was a looneytune. A lot of us do. But the thought police weren't active in America until Trump's supporters decided they were fine with that. You will rue the day - you may have loved ones or friends who despise Trump.

Seems to me that trump hates Americans...he wants to cut our social security, our medicare, reinstitute pre-existing conditions while raising healthcare costs, cut funding for education, dirty up the water and the air and the coastlines while doing nothing about climate change, feed tax breaks to the wealthiest while burdening us with outrageous federal debt for no good reason, and keep our votes from counting by abusing the power of his office to rig the election...I could go on, but you get the idea.

It's all about money. I don't think Trump even wanted to be president, but ran as a publicity stunt. Now that he's won, he's found ways to profit. Not only does he get to spend 1/3 of his time vacationing, but the taxpayers pay for it, with our tax dollars going into his own pockets! And now he's focused on favorable legislation to help him and his buddies stay rich.

The Senate has basically told him that he is above the law now. My only hope is that the American people are paying attention to his actions now where he's punishing people who spoke out against him. And his supporters are totally fine with it because dear leader says it was deserved and that's all they need.

And if out of office at the end of this term the statue of limitations won't run out on some things he can be prosecuted for once out of office. But that is why he is so desperate to win his second term. He will do ANYTHING to stay in office. It's going to get real ugly. And now any restraints are off since acquital.

Indeed, Mr. Trump and his campaign had no expectation of winning, and had only a concession speech prepared on election night.

And the leaker in chief has been Mr. Donald J. Trump all along.

What curious & ugly collection of vitriol and falsity from the rightists among us. One might think that nobody of that ilk has a clear idea of how our 3 branches of government were designed to operate.

Low information voters are a reliable foundation of the GOP's voting base, it seems. First there was professed admiration & approval of all things Russian, now it seems there is professed approval & admiration for fascist, authoritarian takeover. USA going the way of Russia gets a big 'yippee!' from the rightists.
