FOX Admits Fox Regulars Spread 'Disinformation'

dublinbay z6 (KS)

Just as we have long suspected. FOX News itself is the source of FAKE NEWS!

Unfortunately, that is one of Trump's major news sources.

------------------------

"Fox News’ own research team has warned colleagues not to trust some of the network’s top commentators’ claims about Ukraine.

An internal Fox News research briefing book obtained by The Daily Beast openly questions Fox News contributor John Solomon’s credibility, accusing him of playing an “indispensable role” in a Ukrainian “disinformation campaign.”

The document also accuses frequent Fox News guest Rudy Giuliani of amplifying disinformation, as part of an effort to oust former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, and blasts Fox News guests Victoria Toensing and Joe diGenovaboth ardent Trump boosters—for “spreading disinformation.”

The 162-page document, entitled “Ukraine, Disinformation, & the Trump Administration,” was created by Fox News senior political affairs specialist Bryan S. Murphy. . . .

The research brief is especially critical of Solomon, a former opinion columnist at The Hill whose opinion pieces about Ukraine made unsubstantiated claims about its government interfering in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. . . . Trump has also frequently cited Solomon’s questionable reporting on Twitter in his own defense.

[. . .]

Elsewhere in the internal brief, Murphy urges Fox News employees to focus on a wide range of alleged journalistic misdeeds from Solomon, including ”non-disclosure of conflicts, use of unreliable sources, publishing false and misleading stories, misrepresentation of sources, and opaque coordination with involved parties.”

Despite Solomon’s reputation for questionable claims, he continued to be a fixture on Fox News even as impeachment inquiry witness Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman—who listened in on the infamous quid pro quo call between Trump and Ukraine’s president—testified that “all the elements” of the columnist’s supposed Ukraine reporting were “false.”"

Fox News’ so-called “Brain Room” has for its part disputed the narrative posited by The Daily Beast, saying in a statement that the document is research meant only for tracking media appearances.”

“The research division of FOX News produces a briefing book for all major stories, which serves as a standing collection of extensive data on major topics for internal use by all those in editorial functions,” Mitch Kweit, the senior vice president of the “Brain Room,” said in a statement to The Daily Beast.

“The Ukraine briefing book is nothing more than a comprehensive chronological account of what every person involved in the Ukraine controversy was doing at any identifiable point in time, including tracking media appearances of major players who appeared on FOX News and in many other outlets.”

He added, “The 200 page document has thousands of data points and the vast majority have no relation to FOX News — instead it’s now being taken out of context and politicized to damage the network.”

So, after an internal briefing, one guy who works at FOX is having his credibility questioned? Hook him up with a job at CNN. He'll fit right in.

Surely I'm wrong, but there seems to be a concerted effort to shut down any investigation about Ukrainian corruption. It doesn't make sense to me, in a country where so many used to value investigative journalism, and exposing potential crimes.

A briefing book used internally by a news network as a resource for compiling information about Ukraine is used as the center of a story to smear those investigating that topic, and breathlessly shared by countless left leaning websites.

Huh. Just seems odd. But, probably just a coincidence; there's probably nothing worth investigating in Ukraine.

Great! FOX is keeping a close eye on purifying the info they provide to Americans. That is called journalism.

CNN, on the other hand, dumps loads of pure lies out there and calls it ''news''.

You haven't heard of John Solomon? Before you believe the Ukrainian election interference conspiracy theory, you should understand Solomon's role in it.

"How did you miss that? Too eager to get to your 'gotcha' post? "

Hilarious, Kate. I said, "one guy who works at FOX." Everyone else mentioned in the OP was referred to as a "guest".

(Following the "logic" of the OP) Since CNN regularly has Republican "guests" on, and typically, Dems believe everything Republicans say is a lie, then clearly they (CNN) are guilty of spreading fake news as well, no?

No "gotcha" post, by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe you should try reading my posts more carefully.

That "one guy" is Solomon. He played a pivotal role in the conspiracy. He's not just "one guy".

I thought it might be interesting to compare FOX News and CNN.

Here’s FOX:

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/fox-news/

RIGHT BIAS

These media sources are moderately to strongly biased toward conservative causes through story selection and/or political affiliation. They may utilize strong loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes), publish misleading reports and omit reporting of information that may damage conservative causes. Some sources in this category may be untrustworthy.See all Right Bias sources.

  • Overall, we rate Fox News strongly Right-Biased due to editorial positions and story selection that favors the right. We also rate them Mixed factually and borderline Questionable based on poor sourcing and the spreading of conspiracy theories that later must be retracted after being widely shared. Further, Fox News would be rated a Questionable source based on numerous failed fact checks by hosts and pundits, however straight news reporting is generally reliable, therefore we rate them Mixed for factual reporting.

Here’s CNN:

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/cnn/

LEFT BIAS

These media sources are moderately to strongly biased toward liberal causes through story selection and/or political affiliation. They may utilize strong loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes), publish misleading reports and omit reporting of information that may damage liberal causes. Some sources in this category may be untrustworthy. See all Left Bias sources.

  • Overall, we rate CNN left biased based on editorial positions that consistently favors the left, while straight news reporting falls left-center through bias by omission. We also rate them Mostly Factual in reporting, rather than High due to misleading information presented by guests as well as a few failed fact checks by TV hosts. However, news reporting on the website tends to be be properly sourced with minimal failed fact checks.

That "one guy" is Solomon. He played a pivotal role in the conspiracy. He's not just "one guy".

The last I heard, Solomon is standing behind his reporting.

I'm exposed to lots of reporters, and their writing, that I don't agree with. We all are. That's how the country works. Reporters pursue the stories that interest them, and they get to be judged by the public. I'd hate to live in a country that didn't allow investigative journalists to dig, wouldn't you?

I read the article, and it doesn't seem like a bad idea for a network to compile an exhaustive source of information on any topic, including what sounds like a frank discussion of gaps in information presented by some contributors. It sounds like a record, used internally, of who said what, on what date, on the topic.

The Daily Beast (originator of the story) is trying to use it to smear the credibility of Solomon, in particular. He's done a lot of work on the topic of Ukraine. The fact that he's now the target of this smear makes me wonder if he's making people nervous.

Maybe, maybe not. I say, let him dig, and let people decide. Just like we do with contributors to other networks.

The document notes omissions by Hannity, who frequently had Solomon, Toensing, diGenova, and Giuliani on his show. Murphy notes that the primetime star continued to refer to Solomon as an “investigative reporter” even after The Hill explicitly labeled his work to be “opinion.” The briefing also dings Hannity for failing to mention, in a segment featuring Toensing and diGenova about an affidavit filed on behalf of Firtash, that the pair were working for the Ukrainian oligarch Firtash—an obvious conflict of interest.

“At no time during the program does Hannity, Toensing, and diGenova mention who requested the statement nor do they discuss that they are Firtash’s attorneys,” the briefing book reads.

No, the story originated with "an internal Fox News research briefing book obtained by The Daily Beast", which Fox confirms:

“The research division of FOX News produces a briefing book for all
major stories, which serves as a standing collection of extensive data
on major topics for internal use by all those in editorial functions,”

Toensing is who Rudy mentioned in his letter to President Zelensky:

Not in dispute. The DoJ is doing its job.

Folks can claim Barr is in “Trumps pocket,” but of course such attacks are designed to smear the AG. He is looking into actions of Obama’s former VP/Ukrainian point man, who wanted us all to know he got Ukraines top prosecutor fired. Looking forward to learning all about it.

No problem, Vgkg. I was referencing a comment that DID accuse Barr of being in Trump's pocket. Nowhere did I see any such comment from you.

Surely I'm wrong, but there seems to be a concerted effort to shut down any investigation about Ukrainian corruption.

That appears to be a priority in some circles.

Fortunately, the DoJ is vetting information and tips that come in about Ukraine. Last I heard, Rudy has turned over information the DoJ will most certainly evaluate. It's all good.
