Not only needs a large room as Arcy_gw said, but a high ceiling. How high is the ceiling you would want to hang it?

Many linear lights have 2 cables or posts for hanging (like below) that keep both ends the same distance from the ceiling. For the one you show, with just a center post and a chain coming down to either side, I'd be worried about keeping it level. If it tilted just a bit to one side it would make me nuts, and depending on where the links in the chain are in relation to/connection with the center post, one side might be just a bit longer than the other.

As for staring at the light bulbs, I'm not sure why that's a concern. I have clear glass shades on several lights, including my island pendants, and I never stare at the light bulbs. It's about hanging the lights at the right height (above eye level - and we're tall so guests don't have any trouble either.)

Notwithstanding cleaning issues, I think the fixture will look better in your space than in the inspiration pic.

Very cool. Impossible to properly clean. no matter how good your hood is you want something you can clean.

I have a good hood, use it fairly regularly and still get a little greasy residue on light mixtures.
