I don't know if it was ever sealed. We had it remodeled five years ago. We have terrible water, ventilation issues/very humid area and well, I have not been as vigilant as I should be in catching the mildew early. I have seen threads about the staining coming from inside and even asked my husband today. He said everything was done properly behind the travertine. The porcelain has cleaned up nicely. I just did everything today and was going to seal it tomorrow. I could seal just the porcelain and not the travertine while still trying to get the mildew off of it.

Hello all. I'm kinda new to this board, found it while searching for kitchen appliance advice. Great resource! Anyway, just discovered mold/mildew on the back and sides of my leather sectional. We use it every day, it's in our den (TV room). No clue why, no mold/mildew on walls or hardwood floors. Did find sticky juice on the floor behind the sectional that I'm assuming one of my sons spilled and didn't report. Sectional sits in front of windows that could have been left open during rain. Could just plain humidity be the culprit? Most importantly, how should I get rid of it? Thanks in advance.

I have heard teak oil can encourage mildew growth. Is this true? I don't think so -- I've been oiling my teak furniture, some of it for 20+ years, and mildew has not been part of the program. I'm sure exposing the table to fresh air and even some sunlight will help. You also can use a weak (1:4) water:chlorine-bleach solution to clean off the mildew. I'm not sure how one would treat any remaining stain (fine-grit sandpaper? fine steel wool [or equivalent]?) -- maybe someone else can chime in on that.
