Question about floor plans
Comments (7)Bejewel - We are checking out these sites - glad to hear that I am not the only one that doesn't want to walk right into a great room (with the clutter that sometimes builds up in them). Nini - Thank you for the suggestion about traditional style homes. We do lean towards a traditional style - only with a more open floor plan. We are considering a transitional craftsman style. We look forward to pursuing the web sites you recommended. Mydreamhome - I appreciate the suggestion about side loaded garages - we have seen a number of those. Even when it is side loaded, we prefer to have the garage further back than the front of the house - seems tough to find. Renovator - We don't really intend to take plans to an architect. Looking at various floor plans, however, helps us define our thoughts....See MoreLegitimate concern or silly question about induction cooktops?
Comments (14)My issue with sinks isn't the depth--it's where the water comes out. So I buy big faucets and have my sink as far forward as possible now. I've never had a problem with a cooktop, but just like using a sink, everyone does different things there and has different ways of injuring themselves. I'm more concerned with what gives me a back ache than if I can manipulate that crepe on the back burner just so. I guess I don't really tend things on the stove. As long as I can see and reach, I don't care. I'm not there long enough to strain myself and the food items that do require maneuvering (pancakes?) don't give me trouble on the back burner....See MoreSilly, basic question about gas oven with infrared broiler
Comments (11)I've just started using a BS 24" range. The broiler is only about 7" X 10" with the longer dimension side to side. So you have to be conscious of where your food is on the rack. I don't know if larger sizes have bigger elements or not. The heat is intense. If I put the rack on the top position and use the broiler pan that came with the stove a steak starts to char on the top 20 or 30 seconds after I put it in. The first one I tried caught fire after about a minute but it was on a flat pan that didn't let the fat drop down. I was hoping to be able to cook steaks like this and I'm not disappointed. When I drop the BS pan to the next position down it acts more like an electric. The electric ovens I've used had a top element that is spread over the whole top of the oven. They were cooler. A steak just turned gray no matter how hard I tried to char it....See MoreQuestion about rugs & an open floor plan?
Comments (5)OMG, thank you guys so much for taking the time to post pictures. It helps me SOOO SOO much. I want things to flow, but not be too matchy and it's hard! I LOVE both of your homes. You have done such a good job of pulling everything together. I have found quite a few nice Shaw rugs in the colors of my downstairs, so I think I will go that. Thanks again and I will be sure to post pics when it's all done!!...See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
