If you've installed high-end LVP in multiple rooms--questions for you
Comments (4)I have purchased my flooring, but have not yet installed, but I did learn a lot along the way. Lesson 1 - Black top driveways have oils that can make your LVT turn yellow. Someone told me that they had to replace their white a year after buying it because there was a yellow trail from their garage to their kitchen. The staining was not covered under the warranty. The flooring stores acted completely clueless, the manufacturer was vague until I pinned them to an answer and then they admitted that there is a clause that does not warranty against "Environmental Staining". https://www.wolfeflooring.com/blog/why-is-my-floor-turning-yellow/ Lesson 2 - look at photos with a whole room completed with the flooring. A single board or sample may look great, but the color variations and patterns can vary a lot from board to board and may look really busy when all laid out. Lesson 3 - same flooring may be available under several names and different prices at different stores. I saved about 30% of the total cost by shopping around and taking advantage of a sale. Link to a discussion with more information. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5832512/lvp-help-sweet-talker-calypso-oak-sutton-or-royal-crest Lesson 4 - When I couldn't decide between 2 colors I ordered a box of each. The flooring store told me that if I buy both I can exchange the one I don't want for another box of the color I want. It was so much easier to decide with a whole box that I could set out and look at with my furniture and walls and fireplace....See MoreMain Flooring Question . . . Porcelain Tile or LVP?
Comments (10)If your contractor can't guarantee that grout lines will be minimal with wood-look tile, then how can he guarantee that they will be minimal with the 12x24 tile? A good tile installation has 2 parts, first is a good quality tile and the second is a great installer. There is a third component and that is building a good/level structure that is ready for tile, without having to use bucket loads of leveling compound! We used a wood look tile about 8 years ago when we built a guest house. It was a high quality tile that was straight and level and the installer was able to lay it like real wood, with a random layout. No lippage due to good materials and great workmanship....See MoreWhat's the best way to install shade sails above 2 story deck?

Comments (5)What SJM said you have to prep the floor properly. If you look at DriCore installation specs, it tells you that "Any dips or low spots in the concrete surface greater than 1/4" should be troweled level with a Portland cement compound or leveled with a self-leveling compound to ensure an accurate installation." The same goes for LVP flooring "A. The surface of the subfloor must be flat. The flatness requirement is defined as follows: the maximum difference between two high points and the intermediate low point is 1/4" in a 10' radius. Surface flatness must also not vary more than 1/16" when measured with a 3' straight edge. Additionally, the subfloor must not slope more than 1" in 6'. B. High areas can be sanded, ground down, or floated over with an approved self-leveling compound. Fill excessive voids or low areas using a non-gypsum, cementitious-based leveling compound. Allow the leveling compound to dry thoroughly before beginning the LifeProof Vinyl Plank installation. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to be sure it is appropriate for the application. Good luck...See MoreJaykaym
