Help in choosing/designing HVAC system
Comments (2)If the baseboard radiators have been removed, then how is the house heated? If you don't want a hot water system, then the option is a forced air system which can also be integrated with AC cooling. This means running new duct work for both floors. It easier to run duct work from the attic for the second floor which would mean a second furnace. You need to find an HVAC contractor who can take on a project of this size. I would first ask neighbors for recommendations. You could also go to the major brands web sites (Trane/American Standard, Carrier/Bryant, Rheem/Rudd) and look for authorized dealers in your area. You need to find someone who is very good on installation of a new system....See Morehelp needed to choose a new hvac for 10 year old home in cary, nc
Comments (9)Finnicky I generally agree with the remarks from the previous post. It should be noted that on a BTU basis, the operating cost between HP and nat gas is basically a wash. See below. Cost per 100,000 btu of useable heat Heat pump: $1.10 Natural gas:$1.09 Like the other posters, I am surprised about the price of the XL16c and I also prefer the Trane over the Carrier package units. I would recommend a new lineset. What thermostat has been proposed? It makes a difference.plus I would want an outdoor thermostat to control the switch point between HP and nat gas. What size furnace is available for the 3 ton dual fuel unit? I would add the Ext warranty and a whole house air filter cabinet. Perhaps you might ask about the HW Mdl 200. If you have any hot/cold spots within home, now is the time to address. How many returns does your home have? You want to be certain they are sized correctly, located strategically for best airflow and overall comfort. IMO...See MorePl.help to choose right HVAC system.
Comments (30)nms21...while you're at it you should get the 50 gal water heater. At 3000 SF, I assume you have 4 Bedrooms..some day if you sell the 50 gal might be attractive. I sure do prefer having the extra in my house on those days we all want showers around the same time. I doubt it could be much extra $. My quotes were from Hutchinson, P R Sanders,Bovio and Monday is Black HOrse Pike Plumbing and Heating. I sent BHP plumbing and heating one of the quotes from one of the first two, but I took out all the prices and names. I would like to see what a smaller outfit prices for the same equip. They all have A+ bbb ratings. I got them off the njcleanenergy website and all have done a good amount of jobs under the program. One of them quoted me 13244 after all rebates for the Carrier Infinity 98 gas furnace and infinity 17 2-stage air eligible for the 1100 rebate. That was with a 50 gal direct vent hot water heater and attic sealing. I just don't think I need that hvac. Sounds like a "cadillac" system..I hope he emails me back with something more reasonable. When he was here I thought his would be one of the lower prices....but his quote is for different stuff!...See MoreNew HVAC system -- what to choose?
Comments (7)Is the 4x12 duct the main duct for the second floor? It is too small if it is. A 3 ton AC needs 1200 CFM of air. This means the area of the duct should be about 175 sq. inches. You have 48 sq. inches. This duct needs to made bigger. The flex ducts should also be checked for leakages. A 4 ton blower would puch 1600 CFM. You should not exceed 1200 CFM with a 3 ton unit. This is not going to solve your problems....See Moremike_home
