new: jan. 2014 fotess swap: opposite day
Comments (141)Happy Opposite Day, everyone! It's finally here and all of the packages have been received. I think that makes it a good day (... or do I say a bad day?) The creativity in this swap was outstanding! I hope we get to do this swap again one year. I think some of us may look for some other weird days to celebrate for future swaps. I haven't done a bit of winter sowing this year so I hope my back allows for that soon. Of course, it has been extra cold here lately so I might now want to be out there anyway. Do some of you prepare your winter sowing containers indoors and then move them outside once they are planted? I've done that if I want to plant them on a really cold day. Of course, bringing the soil inside is kind of a mess! Usually I just prepare everything in the garage and then move the containers so they are totally outside. Thanks, everyone, for participating. Sharon, I'm glad you are starting to feel better and your package arrived okay. It won't be long and the February swap will begin. Of course, keep chatting here if you like. I think only the game prizes are still "in flight." Jeanne...See MoreFeb. FOTESS Anything But Flower Seeds Swap!
Comments (321)I'm glad you all liked the cards! As usual, I had lots of fun making them! And now for some interesting news: In my mail today, there was a returned card and seeds that I had sent to Connie/wildhairedmavens, in the Feb. Swap. Can you imagine how I felt? "Oh no, now what?" was the least of it! But then I got to thinking and I was sure that Connie had posted she received. SO......I checked back in here and yes, she did receive the cards and seeds, the SECOND TIME I sent out! Talk about relief! And it's really strange that the address they couldn't send this card to was the same address I sent the second card to. Oh the mysterious ways of the US Postal System! I guess that all's well that ends well! have a great day, All! Shirley!...See MoreJanuary FOTESS Activities - The Joy of January!
Comments (177)Thanks so much, everyone. It has been rainy and chilly here today. Apparently farther north in SC they even got snow. I had expected to get the prizes mailed today, but I've just switched our TV service and they came out today to do the installation so I didn't get out the door except for here in the yard. The prizes will go out on Monday - and maybe tomorrow. There's a meeting I have been planning to attend, but we'll see if I get up and get myself moving early enough. If I don't go to the meeting, the little "post office store" I use most of the time is open until 1 p.m. Otherwise I'll head out with them on Monday. JOY is having such special friends here at FOTESS. Happy last day of January! CLEAN: Yes, one more. This is about books, especially paperback books. I read that most books cannot be recycled with paper recycling because of the glue used in the binding. I never tried to recycle any, but I probably would not have thought about that. If you are a book lover, you may do like I do and keep them for a long time. Guess what, some of the pages (especially paperbacks) get yellowed and brittle over time. Books that are in better condition can be donated to our local library and then they are sold to raise a bit of money for the library. If you are a reader you will know of other places that accept donated books. My report is that for the most part old paperbacks (and I still had a few from my days in college) are not fit for anything unless that specific book has a special meaning for you or is a rare collectible. I decided at some point that I would rather buy a book again or better yet borrow it from the library than read an old musty book that makes me sneeze. (Okay after that talk, I will need to go through my bookshelves again!) I've had fun with this theme and am glad you did, too. I certainly didn't get all of my cleaning projects completed, but the information did a lot to keep me motivated....See MoreJune Fotess swap.....Let's go Junking
Comments (161)Hey Shirley, Sorry I didn't see your message! I responded. I am not sure why this website hates me, but I seem to always struggle with getting the notices. Urooj, my discount plants finally bloomed again (one little one so far) it is indeed a blanketflower, will try to post a pic tomorrow! Heidi, you're too funny. I love all your silly stories. I too could never be a diplomate. Always forgetting or sticking my foot (or both feet) in my mouth. Anywho...I hope you'll all join me in my first ever VERY simple swap this month!...See MoreSusan Nieves - Happy Ohio Gardener
