From the 'bored' thread... I'm gonna need some recipes, please!
Comments (21)Sherry's recipe sounds like my recipe for gingersnaps...one of my favorite cookies. I prefer a crisp cookie, but I do like chewy ones also, so I might try Annie's recipe (I KNOW my husband would like them). In any case, I hadn't thought to use crystalized ginger in a gingersnap....why it hadn't occurred to me I have no idea...but I've got some very good home made ginger, and think I'll try some of that in my next batch of 'snaps. I think a crispy cookie with little bits of chewy ginger in it sounds wonderful. I like a Seabreeze. It's a sort of backwards Cape Codder, a Vodka and Grapefruit juice with a splash of Cranberry. But it really has to be freshly squeezed Grapefruit juice and since moving to the Valley, I can't get good, cheap Grapefruit anymore....See MoreFront of house looks boring - hellp
Comments (16)IMHO, you have a long expanse, which is fine. What is needed perhaps is some substancial balance. Your photo doesn't show the right side of the yard and I think this is where you might benefit from a flowering tree set forward, keep the shrubs low across the front of the house, then curve the garden bed outward into a large circle for the tree. I personally don't like the tall shrub in the middle of the porch. It is hard to see the walkway from the door to the driveway, but I do see trees without leaves so assume you live where there is snow?? When I redid my front area, I made a rectangle from the doorway straight out (almost to where you have the large tree) to make it easier to snowblow that area. Then I curved a garden bed at the end of the rectangle and gently brought it closer to the front of the house and back out again on the far end for a medium size (hinoki cypress about 6 ft. tall) shrub, a boulder, ornamental low grases, etc. sitting in front of the shrub. It brought balance to the long expanse of the house and the garage. Just something to consider...... I find the straight across cut shrub under the octo window out of sync. Maybe 2 rounded azales might work better or something a little whispy. If you like stone, how about just 2 layers of stone to edge the front of the garden bed? Something in a light tone. I would love to see two high back brightly colored chairs (rockers) with a small table between on the porch under the front windows. Now would be a great time to take some garden hoses and play with them in the front to outline a curvy garden bed. Bringing the garden more forward would soften the lines of the house....See MoreI'm bored, need some texture and drama in my walls. bored
Comments (10)All walls look boring when there's nothing on them. Artwork is the natural solution, and choosing it is the opposite of boring. Depending upon your taste and budget, choices include original art or a print. If a print, you can choose a framed piece, gallery wrapped canvas, or metal -- I've shown an example of each from SteveHendersonCollections.com (also https://2-steve-henderson.pixels.com/) -- the framed piece is Sunrise on the Columbia; the canvas print is Awakening; the metal print is Autumnal colors. You can go for a poster, but in order for your home to not give a sense of being a dorm room, you'll want to frame it -- and when you frame it, you don't want to go ultra cheap: it shows. Sometimes it's just as easy, and around the same price, to purchase the work online with the frame. The key to choosing the right art for your home includes taking your time and finding what is meaningful to you. Whether or not it matches the rug is not the issue -- what truly matters is finding that piece that speaks to you, brings a sense of happiness or well being, challenges your mind and thoughts, and literally brings a smile to your face when you see it. Art isn't an accessory. It is an invitation to step into another world....See MoreSpeaking of style...I need some inspiration.
Comments (19)I work from home and often wear leggings/tunic when I’m home most of the day because Comfort. The rest of the time my uniform is jeans but I also have these pants, which I LOVE. http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=46800&pcid=46800&vid=1&pid=964562012 Ignore the bunching at the ankles. They have drawstrings that aren’t really noticeable and I don’t “draw” them. They’re so comfy, light weight, if I wear them with a t-shirt I have that might-be-going-to-the-gym look without looking too sloppy. These pants have gone on several vacations with me. I have the petite size. I also really like Lucky Brand tops. They have prints that are sort of boho but not over the top. Comfy and washable and a lot of them are a good length (I’m only 5’2” and have problems with tops being too long unless they’re petite). They seem to have sales online pretty regularly. Finally, more cotton jersey comfort...the Rosemarie dress from Toad & Co is so versatile. I own two in black and a couple others in different colors....See MorePatrick Remington
