Windows inside showers are drafty and they rot. You'd need to add changing out the window to the many expenses of moving the tub/shower. Do you USE a tub? A lot of people only have one for supposed 'resale to people with small children'. You can see where I'm going with this...lose the tub and make a shower in a portion of the same space. Least plumbing expense would be to put the shower next to the existing sink -- where the plumbing and drain already exist. This would leave space beyond the shower for at least a linen closet -- possibly for a second vanity and sink. (Check the elbow room and consider if two people would ever use this bathroom at the same time.)

The challenge, especially in bathrooms, is that fixtures have a huge range in price. For example, you can buy a serviceable toilet for $100 but if you want a lid that automatically raises and lowers, heated seat, mood lighting, and Bluetooth connectivity then the price runs into the thousands. While it's beyond me why anyone would want a toilet with a remote control, they exist and illustrate the complexity in pricing a bathroom because similar choices can be made with every fixture and surface. If you are going to bring contractors for a bid, then you need to have a pretty good idea what you want so that you can compare apples to apples. Another idea might be to try a local home center. Most offer free design services and while you're not going to get a world class designer and your fixture/surface choices will be limited to what the store sells, it's a place to start. Unlike regular contractors who don't get paid to give estimates, the folks in home centers do.

We still have half paneled walls in the living room, they were painted gray but kept the decorative brown trim the same color. The top half of the wall is popcorn along with the ceilings. No carpet thank God but we still have the original wall oven not in avocado green but brown. Needless to say we have our work cut out for us so I've been window shopping for furniture and decor so I don't feel overwhelmed. We're getting the popcorn removed professionally at the end of the month so that'll be one thing we can check off the list. This our third house and we tend to buy ugly houses (last one was a 90s HUD home with muave EVERYWHERE) but this is the first one that is damn near a total gut. Knocking down walls, completely reconfiguring the kitchen and master bath. Why couldn't we have bought a victorian with all original things still in place?

LOL, I knew about soldered copper, but had never heard "sweat". I learned something new! Thanks. One plumber did not know they were hard copper and can't be bent. Not good... So, the connections/fittings will be soldered if copper, or they will be PEX. They will be under the concrete when lengthened. Both plumbers said that was not to code, but they didn't seem to care since no one will inspect inside the concrete. I just want the job done correctly, but it seems like it will not be to code. Thanks for your help. Now, I will know a little more about what the plumber should do. I have had 3 or 4 plumbers come here to do the work, then they change their minds I guess. They say they will call me, but I don't hear from them, and they don't respond to my calls. I found another plumber through my electrician, and he is supposed to come Tuesday. I can't believe this bathroom has been gutted since April, and nothing has been done yet. Southeastern Oklahoma used to have cold winters, but we rarely get past freezing now. Last ice storm was 2007.
