area rugs under dining room table???
Comments (21)I have a rug under my DR table. It's a nice wool rug I found on sale at a reasonable price. As others have noted, I made sure the dimensions allowed for all chairs to be pushed back without falling off the rug. (BTW, in the photo above with the zebra rug, I don't know how one would use the chairs at that table without catching the edges of the rug... that's the most impractical set-up I've ever seen, but, yes, I do like the rest of her blog. ;-) There are a number of economical sources for large area rugs--you don't have to spend thousands. My DR rug is no more difficult to keep clean than any other area of my home....See MoreRug under dining table to protect carpet
Comments (3)I haven't used carpet on top of carpet, but I certainly see it a lot any more...a decorating 'fashion' statement. I've vacuumed at my SILs though, and I don't like to fuss with the edge around the area carpet placed on the wall-to-wall - so chose not to do that here in my living or dining rooms which have off white wall to wall carpet. If you are interested in trying it without investing lots, several on the home decorating forum here have suggested esalerugs.com. That company was new to me but most seem to have been pleased. At the recommendation from posters there, I've just now ordered poly runners that have the look of oriental rugs for the hallway through my mudroom and the far end that leads outside to the patio. They are telling me can be hosed off if they get especially dirty....we'll see. The rugs aren't due to be delivered until mid week next week so I can't speak to their quality first hand....See MoreHelp with Choosing a Rug for Under Dining Table

Comments (12)You absolutely need an area rug. Keep the pattern to a minimum, but get something with the slightest bit of the blue wall color, otherwise that wall color makes no sense. Then I would remove those drapery panels, they don't match and they just look messy. I would remove those 4 framed pieces of art, I would not hang art there, there's not enough room and it's not needed with the window, just let the window be the star of that wall. I would stain that sideboard piece a darker color, it looks too dated in the light wood color it is now. And then you need some large art on the walls, again try to pull in the tiniest bit of that blue wall color, you need to continue to try and make that color more a part of the room instead of standing alone on the walls. And then decorate the top of the sideboard and the dining table....See MoreRelated Professionals
