Furniture placement help!

Just bought small bungalow and struggling with furniture placement in combo living/dining room. Picture shown is current owner's furniture. Other than using a mid century modern teak dining table for it's smaller size and simplicity I'm really stuck. I currently have a 3 seater sofa which I'm thinking will be too big in this room. Would it divide the room too much to have a sofa facing the fireplace? The entrance to the room is bottom right and a little further on the right hand side is open to the kitchen. The second door on the right is entrance to back hallway/bedrooms.

Comments (16)Center the rug with the fireplace. Take the bookcase out of the left corner of the room and put that in the space between the kitchen and FR, where the console table now sits. Move the sectional down toward the fireplace, (after centering the rug), add an end table to the outside of the chaise part of the sectional. Someone sitting there wonâÂÂt want to move to get a drink off the coffee table. Be sure there is a lamp there as well, to light that corner of the room. Move the armoire to angle in the corner where the sectional was sitting originally. Use it for storage, perhaps add shelving or even a pull-out shelf for a computer center which can be closed up and put away. The piece is very nice, and gives good height to balance the fireplace and high ceilings. For now, try the console on the wall to the right of the fireplace, and place the new flatscreen on that. Later you may prefer a more substanial cabinet, which can hide other components and store DVDs, etc. If you do that, then try the console table behind the part of the sectional that has its back to the kitchen. Comments (3)Another voite to remove the fireplace and hearth. Will you keep a desk area? If so, I would move it to the wall left of sliding doors, put the sofa table on the wall where the desk is now and the sofa against it. A lamp or two on the sofa table. Sleeper sofas are super heavy and sometimes not that comfortable to sit or sleep on. For comfort, a left hand chaise would be nice for TV viewing. With the FP gone, the TV could go to the left a bit and could sit on a small media cabinet. Rig sized correctly and a small round coffee table. ETA: After looking at photos again, I see that is NOT a desk area. If FP is removed, you could use that chest on the "new" wall with the new/smaller TV on top or hung above....See MoreFurniture placement help
Comments (6)I’d try to continue enjoying fireplace, watching TV witth two areas, but with the objective of not splitting room. I would rearrange fireplace area (new furniture if possible to suit leather and in this set up, swivel chairs aren't needed). Leave space on right open and could warm up/ground with a rug. Not sure if space allows, but should be easy to figure out. More comfy chairs than above. On TV side, try moving the recliner, again to open up the room. Thinking couch could go under window and two chairs along the back wall. Comments (7)The couch in the last picture is too large for the room. Which way do the French doors swing? Will you be opening/closing them? Try the other couch facing the FP (put it just past the window bank) with a chair on each side of the FP. OR put it on the window wall with a chair to the right of the FP and the other chair to the right of the French door opposite the windows.
