The first thing I notice is the almost total lack of color in your bedroom. It also lacks curtains, and there is very little softness, and a lot of dark and angular furniture. In the inspiration room that Beverly shows there is a definite and very cohesive color scheme, and much more softness to the bedding, and some strong and definite pattern. You might consider buying an area rug you love and taking color and pattern inspirations from that. The art in your room is too small and timid, and I would look for much larger and more colorful art to bring life to this room. A large easy chair in front of the window in a beautiful color and some decorative pillows could also become part of your color scheme. A very spare and modern aesthetic may not give you the warm and cozy vibe you say you're looking for. It might be better to wait until you've bought the furniture you want before asking for advice since I gather everything in the room will be different. The orientation of the bed looks good to me in relation to everything else, including where the door is.

move the bed to the left (in the photo), and get a wall treatment that extends past each side of the bed. hang the curtain so it makes the window look larger than it is, and centered over the bed. Then for staging it'll look symmetric, and for the rest of the time, you can open/tie back the curtain and enjoy the natural light. A grey shantung or similar curtain would probably work well with your décor.

If you have someone who is handy, you could get them to build you a cover for that radiator and have it extend over towards the bed with open shelves on the end. Something that looks like this. I'm struggling with importing the pictures. Have a look at that website. There is a picture of a cover that has open shelves at one end - something like that might solve mulitple issues for you. Or, similar to that, it could have a little drawer and door so it would be more like a proper table and then the top of the rad is also a bit of storage for you. This is a Canadian company but the pricing looks quite reasonable IMO. I'm sure you could find someone local to you who could build something similar.

Thanks for the ideas! I like the idea of it being multifunctional over time and it eventually becoming a desk or reading nook. I'll play around with that. I don't think we're willing to take on a renovation that would involve moving a window unfortunately!
