A striped pinata cake, ta-da!

I tried making a striped cake for the first time. Super cool. Only thing is I ran out of icing and was too lazy to whip up a new batch. I should have; I could have smoothed out the finish more. I used a 1:2 ratio on the buttercream. Darn good but so so rich.

The inside is a pinata. It's a 4-layer 6" diameter cake, with a hole in the center of the three bottom layers. You fill the cavity with candy (I used pastels...jelly beans, MnMs, a few dragees for the toxins) before you place the last layer. When they cut it, it'll all spill out. (I'm the only one who saw me do this part, so shhhh).

It's a lemon cake, with raspberry preserves between the layers.

So yeah, I'm still watching the Great British Bake Off if you couldn't tell. Binge-watching, in both senses. Think I could interest the NHS in a study of the average viewer weight gain per season?

PS I tried to cc the cooking forum to commiserate similarly afflicted folk. I can never find them?
