Thanks everyone for replying. hlove ~ Thanks for including those photos. Circus ~ I love the look of flared log posts and the open floorplan with a loft. I really dislike wooden cabinetry (looks dated too quickly). I also really don't like brown and beige and gravitate towards the cool watery colour tones (with wood for warmth). I would hardly describe my choices as "schizophrenic" (or any design choice for that matter-it is demeaning to people who suffer with that illness and who are probably already ostracized from general society). Zoe ~ Thanks for including those pictures. I'd love to see how your white trim will look. Marcolo ~ I guess modern rustic does describe what I'm going for? FWIW, we are not building a log cabin, it's a 6000 sq foot house framed with logs (so all of our walls are drywall).

Blue, I would recommend taking a look at your whole kitchen remodel, what your design thoughts were, and how that fits with the rest of the house. If the remodeling you are doing is consistent with the rest of the house, then it would make sense that you would leave the wood trim the same as the rest of the house, and in this case, the unpainted trim should match the cabinets. If you are putting a modern kitchen in an older house (for example), then I would consider painting the trim to match the kitchen. Also ask yourself if the contractor is really experienced in his recommendation. I am sure he has a lot of experience with remodeling, but does most of his other remodels include painting trim and that's what he thinks is best, or does he have a valid point? I know a lot of people who would consider painting trim not to be a good thing. It doesn't bother me, and I like the way painted trim brightens up a room. If you are really not sure what to do even after you talk to people, I would say leave the trim alone. If you don't like it in a month or a year, it will be easier to paint it later than to make it natural wood again. I am sure your kitchen will be beautiful and you will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Let us know what you decide on. Hope this helps. Tim

Did you mean BM white dove?? I am not sure I know the color white down, but if it IS White Dove. I think the difference will be insignificant if you use it but will have a warmer look depending on the lighting. I have White dove everywhere and my kitchen cabinets, in fact, are a stark white. I would never try to match the white, IMO I would always go a bit creamier or softer. I tell people that white dove is like a white with the 'bite' taken out of it and does not look yellow to me at all, just soft. In my darkest rooms, however, it does look a little more to the putty gray side in certain lights, nonetheless, still a white.Good luck

Have a look at the Blog posts and Colorography Lab at The Land of Color .com for attributes of lots of popular paint colours. It allows you to compare similar colours in detail. If you are looking at whites/off-whites or indeed any colours, note that the higher the Chroma the more colourful colour. A colour maybe so low in Chroma you might struggle to immediately recognise in which Hue Family it belongs.
