Looking for windows with black interior and black exterior
Comments (162)We were also wanting windows with black interiors and exteriors. For us the local availability brought it down to a choice between Pella or Milgard fiberglass windows. The Pella offerings were somewhat pricier, and we could never quite understand the why of it. We wound up selecting Milgard Ultra, and we're happy with the end results. And Milgard's warranty was fantastic, as our landscaper accidentally hit one window with a stone and chipped it, but Milgard replaced the insert without so much as a blink. One factor is whether a particular manufacturer's black is acceptable to you. Milgard's is called Black Bean, which is a bit lighter than true black, and I fussed over this for quite a while. Pella's may have been very slightly blacker, but also not true black. Now that we can see the final product in place, it looks fine. Good luck on your project. Comments (9)Thanks! To answer your question on exterior, it's actually up in the air right now, but assume some windows will be in a stacked natural stone/mortar exterior, some in a hardwood (like ipe) rainscreen siding and some in an EFIS/stucco-like exterior. Does any of this change your answer on getting those returns? And if replacements are 3.25" how thick are new construction windows generally? Re: stone sills, is the cold issue more of a comfort thing or a performance/efficiency issue? Former I might be able to live with, latter would have me reconsidering. On the black upcharge, I was actually referring to the upcharge to the consumer, not the mfg cost. I'm quite confident a different paint color costs the mfg nothing more when offered as a standard non-custom option! But I've heard the additional cost to consumer (all that matters as you correctly noted) is around 40% and I was wondering if it's really that bad....See MoreJeldWen Auraline Vs. Comments (43)While I realize that an anecdote is not the same as data, my experience with Pella on a previous custom home was horrendous. I requested their blinds between the glass because my husband had just been diagnosed with multiple allergies and was being injected way too often. About half of the Pella windows leaked. Others had problems with the blinds. The local Pella dealer broke two replacement windows while attempting to install them, so we lived for months with plywood over the window openings on the front of our new home while waiting on new windows. The corporate office denied any responsibility for the windows and refused to assist in any way. The local dealer with whom the custom builder had contracted finally stopped responding to his calls. I was told the windows were designed to allow air infiltration, which also meant water could be blown inside. This all happened nearly two decades ago. We haven't used Pella windows, and we've told our grown children to avoid them....See Moremillworkman
