Tile above window- last minute decision- husband tiling now.
Comments (18)My vote is not to tile above the window. I know that tiling all the way up to the ceiling and around the window is on trend right now, and industrial-inspired look that also harkens back to the fully-tiled kitchens of the 1920s (at least hear in the mid-Atlantic where I live) But I don't think tiling all the way up is the right choice for your kitchen. I also think it is nice to have some wall for paint, something that can be changed more easily over the years than tile....See MoreNeed help with last minute counter decision
Comments (10)I have a big sample of Torquay sitting in my dining room, and every time I pass it I think, "Why don't I just pick it and get it over with?" But I totally understand your fake stone issue. I'm going to visit every stone yard within 100 miles of here, and if I find a beautiful madreperola, I'm there! It's one of the very few stones that can make me stray from what I'm supposed to be looking for - a leathered black granite (I know - that's not even close to MP or Torquay). Have you seen Pip's gorgeous kitchen? I'll link it below. Here's a picture of a Christopher Peacock kitchen that might help: The countertop is similar to yours, and the oak cabinets are similar to yours, and the gray cabinets are similar to your tile color, so I'd say you could make it look really nice. Just make sure you fill your glass-front cabinets with dishes that match your gray floor! Here is a link that might be useful: Pip's kitchen...See MoreHelp, another last minute decision
Comments (6)Thanks all. My decision is made, I am going to hold down the three wall cabinets, but I still have the weekend to change my mind. I figure, if I hate it, I can always have a small cabinet built on top to raise them to the ceiling. I do have a plan for the space on top of the cabs. Ever since seeing a carved wooden pig in a shop in China Town, I have been on the lookout for something similar. I also have a collection of maneki nekos that might look good up there. So, something sculptural that might just need a going over with a feather duster. Regarding the range, leave your envy for someone with a glass induction range top. It takes me a half hour to clean the top after cooking dinner, and I'm not even a messy cook. When that hunk was installed I looked at it (I swear it was looking at me too) and almost burst into tears. I thought, why didn't I get a simple cooktop, and not some machine that I have to read through a book to learn how to use. But now I love it. I learned by twisting knobs and checking for the smell of gas....See MoreWho wants to play "last minute decisions"? Contractor here in 1 hour
Comments (5)I like the idea of putting the handheld in the corner or at least somewhat away from the main faucet. Our bathtub is like yours ... sunken and with a black matte granite surround deck. I hate trying to use the pull out as it seems so close to the faucet and it all just gets in the way. Try looking through these photos for ideas. http://www.houzz.com/photos/query/undermount-tub-with-soapstone-deck-photos/ Keep us posted!...See MoreT
