Fold down or fold out ironing board???
Comments (6)To me space was more of a premium and I didn't want to waste any base cabinet space for any ironing needs as I needed it to store other things. I liked the idea of using the wasted space between studs for it. The door and frame doesn't really bother me and I rarely notice it. I more notice our mess of boots in front of the bench area for the mudroom. Think I need to re-do the bench or add a shelf somewhere as the current arrangement doesn't work for boots as they are too tall to fit anywhere (and all but one pair is DH's)...See MoreBest Size for a Mudroom, Laundry Room, Pantry??
Comments (22)I have a mudroom/laundry. office and pantry combination. No cubbies as there are no children in the home. Kitchen on one end, garage entrance on others. We have hooks just outside in garage for wet clothes and a shoe rack also. Desk side. Coat closet, desk area. Cabinets above house vases, holiday glassware, cookbooks, and one with batteries, flashlights and misc. File drawers and desk drawer. The big one on the far end holds large bag of dog food and other dog items. Not in picture but located left of coat closet is my drying closet for drying sweaters and things that don't go in the dryer. Louvered doors and there is wiring for a heater/fan combo but we didn't put it in. The heated floors seem to do the job nicely. Sink W/D side. on the far end left is floor to ceiling pantry with slideout drawers inside.Next upper cabinet holds misc kitchen gadgets that are not used to often. Other side of sink upper has detergent and other laundry needs as well as cleaning supplies. Small cabinet up above that holds some tall vases. Then comes stacked W/D with a small cabinet above that has kerosene lamps and other seldom used items. Below counter left of sink drawers with candles and other small holiday deco in top drawer, second drawer down is husbands snack drawer, 3rd drawer has some kitchen pans and other weird shaped things in it. Second set of drawers has tablecloths and placemats in top drawer, extra plastic wrap, paper towels etc in 2nd drawer, various small kitchen appliances in bottom drawer. Cleaning supplies under sink. Next top drawer and second drawer holds small household tools and other such items. Next top drawer has paper goods and misc. Two bottom drawers just misc stuff....See Morefolding shower seats
Comments (2)The top photo looks like it comes from teakworks4u.com. Hudson Reed makes one with less obtrusive hardware (link below). Alsons also makes fold-ups, but they're more pricey. Here is a link that might be useful: Hudson Reed bench...See MoreLaundry-mudroom in new build?
Comments (23)I don't see a good place to fold in there. It looks really tight. I don't even see a place where you could pull out a hidden folding surface. Annette, a flipfold is not the same as a folding table. It is a plastic thingy they sell at Container Store that makes it fast to fold shirts and towels and some other things. They use them in clothing stores. It totally changed my dread of folding things. As I mentioned before, I use the kitchen counter which for me is a perfect height. Folding on the bed would hurt my back. I would try to find some kind of folding table for the DH, but I don't see where you could put it in that room based on the washer-dryer discussion. I might look for a place to fold in a different room, and make it counter height. Maybe a room with a view. :-) The flipfold makes it super fast - I would get through a load/basket full in maybe ten minutes: dump, sort and flipfold. My kitchen counter peninsula is 2' x 8', so there is plenty of room for sorting multiple loads. But if you fold one load at a time, it can be finished in minutes and you don't need as much room. Another thought is to have some kind of step up surface to raise your height so that it is comfortable to fold on the elevated countertop. That does not sound too safe: you don't want your head to hit the ceiling and you don't want to accidentally step off the step. I have been painting a lot lately and the little rubbermaid stepstool is used constantly. However I have to stand in one place, so I don't know if that would work for folding laundry. I would do it in a different room where I could move more freely. Unless... you could construct something safe that pulls out from under the machines and extends the length and has its own support underneath... IDK, it's a stretch....See Moregirl_wonder
