HELP - ENTRYWAY/FRONT PORCH NEEDS MUCH HELP
Comments (9)So I would absolutely keep the rug. I would do a cooler color on the wall like a gray green or gray blue. Get a runner to go between the doors that coordinates with your existing rug. I would add real baseboards but if you can’t just paint a 4” wide white band above what you have to fake it. Add a narrow console table with an open decorative front to hide the air conditioner. Paint the door to the house charcoal gray. I found these curtain panels that to me could mimic artwork to hide the vertical blinds. Then add a seating are there. Keep the bench and mirror as is. I don’t have photoshop so excuse my poor mockups lol....See MoreMy front path needs some pretty. I need experienced eyes.
Comments (37)Btydrvn, bamboo is not a part of any habitat in the northeast along the Connecticut river. The risk of it spreading far and wide in the region is low, due to it rarely producing seed and the climate, but it does have potential to expand from its source and displace other plants on the property, assuming we're talking about Phyllostachys aurea. Some plants make a lot of nuts, seeds, fruits, shoots, leaves, or nectar as a direct food source for animals. Often insects eat a plant, then other species like birds eat the insects, creating a food web. Relatively few insects and animals eat the bamboo directly, it doesnt produce fruit, mast or nectar, and its contribution to the food web is relatively low compared to native species and even some non-native species. It also changes the soil and leaf litter dynamics where it is growing. Pretty much everything it does as a plant like erosion control, carbon sequestration, cover for wildlife, and providing building materials, other plants can also do while providing more food to other organisms. Forest service has some info about bamboo, albeit in the south https://www.fs.fed.us/database/feis/plants/graminoid/phyaur/all.html#INTRODUCTORY ETA: https://bamboo.org/GeneralInfoPages/BambooPests.html another link saying generally few north american animals use bamboo for food....See MoreNeed help with my entry space please!!!
Comments (4)First, I'd trim out the front door with casing to make it more finished looking. Shall I assume that was removed during your kitchen remodel? If so, call the contractor back to finish the door. As for the space between the door and the counter, as well as the plant/mirror area near the stairs, I'd get large framed pieces of art. Because you have a French-inspired hood for your range, maybe vintage French posters would be fun. Something like these, perhaps?...See MoreI hate my entry hall. Please help!
Comments (21)Great feedback! Yes I am starting to realize how ugly those stair treads are. I have a dog who suddenly avoided the stairs, so I did something kind of quick. I like that they have a rubber/silicone backing so you can pick them up and throw them in the wash as needed. Unfortunately that’s a new enough feature that there are not any nice designs with that feature yet, but I will keep looking. For the same reason, that’s why I don’t want a full runner - need to be able to clean dog tracks. I love the part about hyperfixating! Yes! That’s exactly what I’m doing! Haha. I considered beadboard or board & batten. My home is a federal style row home and the original ones have an enclosed space (two sets of doors) often with tile between the inner and outer doors. I considered trying to recreate a look like that (without extra doors) by doing beadboard for a small entry with some coat hooks, etc. then I thought about pulling the beadboard all along the left wall and to the back garage door to disguise it, but that may not be a good solution either. The right wall that goes up the stairs is part of what is called the tower or the stack. All the floor stairways are in the same location and they’re all open to the floors they’re one, so it was a challenge finding a place to stop one color and where to start another. That color goes all the way up to the third floor. It looks amazing on the second floor where there’s more light, but it’s true - it’s not flattering on the first or third floors, which are basically just hallways. I guess I should consider different paint too....See Moredecoenthusiaste
