Sharp microwave drawer cabinet size for 24'
Comments (13)I sent the sharp specs to the KD and this was his response: " The minimum Requirement for 24" width means that clearance of inside of cabinet has to be at least 24" , a 24" wide cabinet has 22 ¼" clearance and 27" cabinet has 25 ¼" clearance ( because of two ¾" thick sides of each respected cabinets)." This makes no sense because the Sharp specs which say the opening must be 22 1/8" because according to his measurements it would fit! He obviously didn't read the sharp specs I sent him. Is he just difficult or lazy (sorry to vent here, I'm trying to remember why we didn't DIY!) Thanks once again to all you gardenwebbers for teaching me so much and helping me design a kitchen exactly the way *I* want it!...See MoreMicrowave drawer in an inset or overlay cabinet okay?
Comments (7)There is a gotcha if you are using beaded inset. You either need to be working with a manufacturer that will do a custom cabinet at least 3" larger than the MW, or you need to give up the bead around the MW opening on that cabinet. When I work with Dynasty, I can put a 24" MW in a 27" base MW cabinet and it work perfectly with the cutout and bead from the factory. With the new 30" drawer, I had to go to Omega, because a 30" MW cabinet is as large as Dynasty offers. Also, the door will stick out 1 13/16th from the face frame, which looks much better with full overlay than inset. While I've "heard" that you can do a flush install with inset cabinets if you increase the depth of the cabinet, Sharp's specs do not list or show how to do it, so it would be off spec. I would also imagine that could be much more damaging to the surrounding cabinetry, which is why they don't show it....See MoreMicrowave drawer installed incorrectly in inset cabinets?
Comments (73)Nidnay - I remember reading this post at the start of building our new home over 2 years ago. Although I thought your microwave looked fine the way it was, I did like the inspiration photo that you showed. So I filed in my brain to be sure and have my microwave set back into the cabinetry because we also were getting inset cabinets. Guess what...I never gave it another thought!!! Now in our house for over a year and I saw this thread had popped up again. I had to go into my kitchen and see how my microwave drawer was placed. Well, apparently the position has never bothered me. 😁 PS - My dishwasher is on the opposite side, but within the bump-out area of my cabinets, It is inset into the cabinetry. When the dishwasher (Bosche) was first installed, it was sticking out like the microwave (I still cannot believe that I have never noticed 😀.) I had my builder set the dishwasher into the cabinetry....See MoreStyle question re: Inset doors in same kitchen w/full overlay doors
Comments (8)Sorry, Patricia, the crank pasta machines stay. The penninsula stays, also. There is not enough room for an island or wall ovens. The sink is at the only outside wall and it will say at the window with a view of a creek. An unfinished attic is above the stove. We are both in the kitchen prepping, cooking, and cleaning up at the same time - not one prepping then one cooking. We need more space at the stove and primary sink. This design gives us each a contained workspace without crossing each other's path constantly. . . and takes us out of the walkway. Walking through the living room provides access to the rest of the house for anyone who wants to avoid the kitchen. We view the refrigerator as the appliance that we spend the least amount of time in front of. It's close enough to the stove and the penninsula, and acts as a landing spot for both prep and cleanup. Changing the doorway also brings the kitchen closer to the deck. The only real inconvenience I see is at the doorway when the dishwasher is open. Cabinet style was a secondary consideration. Our experience with a number of purely kitchen designers is that they design great features but won't be using the kitchen with another cook once their work is done. We want and need to be able to function in our kitchen. My question involved how well inset cabinets at the penninsula would blend with full overlay slab cabinet doors. So, here are photos of the current space and preliminary measurements for the redesign. There doorway at the left will be 30" and the fridge will be about 6" to the right....See Morewdccruise
