Tile to ceiling or stop short

What's the consensus here? We've all seen it done both ways and can probably make a case for each.

My situation... full bathroom remodel... I'll be using subway tile for the alcove shower/tub. Furthermore, I'm also tiling the adjacent sink and toilet wall as a contiuation of the shower. A part of me wants to be consistent with both areas. ie... tile all the way to the ceiling anywhere there's tile, or stop short of the ceiling anywhere there's tile. I don't love the idea of drilling anchors for fixtures and lighting into subway tiles, but if it the forum suggests it, there are ways and means of doing so mindfully and carefully. Thank you!!!

For the tub/shower area: Tiling to the ceiling is a nice clean look. This is what we did in our recent remodel of 2 tub/shower combos and 1 tub to shower conversion. The only negative IMO is that it can present a challenge to the tiler if the ceiling is not flat and the tiler is not skilled enough. My tile pro made sure the ceiling was perfectly flat. Be sure your tile pro does that. You don't want ugly slivers or other unpleasant errors where the shower wall meets the ceiling.

For the other walls: IMO in looks most lovely when you tile all the way to the ceiling in the shower area, and then you drop it down and do a tile wainscot for the adjacent areas. That way you get a little bit of wall area in the bathroom that you can paint a subtle/soft color, or a bold/adventurous color, rather than having tile absolutely everywhere.

I like the shower tiled to the ceiling, but probably wouldn't tile an adjacent wall with vanity. Maybe a little backsplash made of the tile would look nice. There are numerous images of this.

MY BAD!!!! - I saw the pics that Malhgold posted and mistakenly thought that they were of your kitchen - sorry - didn't mean to get your nose out of joint there - my comment about the soap dispenser should be directed at Malhgold... But I'd still advise you to tile everything around your hood like in the fourth drawing you have posted from the top.... but then I'm a guy - AND a Tile Contractor for 30+ years - AND a Fabricator for 25 years.... but that's STILL my vote!!! I saw on another thread where you mentioned that. It doesn't seem right to me. I think it's the same principle as when you change paint colors on a wall--you want to make the transition in a corner. Here you're making the transition on the bump-out. I don't like how it stops at the top of the door as that is the "box" that makes up the pantry. The box should be consistent. I definitely wouldn't recommend tiling over the doorway as it doesn't make much sense. You're not splashing that far! Maybe rebunky or oldbat2be could photoshop it. Speaking of oldbat, I noticed she hasn't been around for weeks. Maybe if we yell loud enough she'll hear us. ;)

Help me decide where to stop window trim and where to tile

My contractor suggested taking the window trim to the ceiling topped with crown. There will be 2 wall sconces above windows with a wood hood going between the windows. If I do that, I have a place to end the backsplash to inner edge of windows. If I make the trim shorter, it will go right under the sconces and then I have the issue of tiling between the trim and crown and will tile the entire wall. The space between top of windows and ceiling is 12" There are 2 15" deep uppers that connect to countertop on either side, leaving 9" between window edge and cabinets not including the trim Now sure what to do with the sink wall backsplash or window trim either. Well, you have to ask yourself, "How much do you love that concrete?" As suggested, the low cost option would be to stain it. A higher cost choice, but more "lovely" in the long run, would be to get rid of the concrete and extend your existing, or complimentary pavers. A driveway just looks better when it extends all the way to a garage door. Just sayin.'

Here's a HOUZZ pic where they took the tile all the way to the ceiling everywhere. I think it's overbearing and they should have dropped it down to a wainscot.

Tile absolutely everywhere makes me feel like I'm at the gym.
