geokid, I forgot about Young House Love's kitchen...I've seen theirs before. It looks great. I'm afraid their kitchen is bigger than mine though. wendyb, your space looks wonderful. In the pictures it doesn't look cramped at all to me. You might have more room widthwise and less room lengthwise than I do. I can see how traffic patterns could be a challenge. If we go with a rectangular table I'll probably run it lengthwise in our space. I looked around the web for a while yesterday and I came up with this photo which looks like similar space and layout to what I have. This has a round table, but I'm not sure what size it is (I think I'd be looking for somewhere in the 44-48" range). It has both chairs and barstools: I also found this one which has chairs similar to what I've ordered. Mine are the armless version though and mine have wood legs not chrome. Also, this space is quite a bit larger than mine. I definitely like the chairs with this style of table:

Stephanie, when will your light fixture go up and your drapes. I realize the curtains are being made. Please post when they are done so then the console table you were considering relocating or can be addressed. I think with the curtains in and the light fixture giving the room some warmth it will be a good point to start on that if you like..... for now, it's just some Ginger Jars? :) Have a nice day and please post when you have them!

Looks like a space for a rectangular table to me and you will have the greatest number of options with a rectangular table. Get the dimensions for tables you like and use painters tape to put the outline on your floor (or stack boxes for a 3-D effect). You just want to model it in some way so you get the feel for how much space it will take up. Allow three feet around the table for chairs (and pulling out chairs). Decide which size you're comfortable with. I don't know how many people you need to be able to seat every day. If you occasionally need to be able to seat more, make sure the table would still fit with a leaf, but that could be on the tight side if it's infrequent. If everyone is used to being able to walk through empty space they may have to get used to a new traffic pattern when there is a table there, but this house was clearly designed to have a table there.

Thanks, everyone! erinsean , It's just my husband and me, and I'm pretty much the only person who watches TV in this room, and very seldom at that. We have a TV room downstairs that we use 99% of the time, but for the odd time I want to watch on the main floor, or our daughter is home & wants to watch something different, we do want to keep a TV in this room. The new one is a Frame TV, so the vast majority of the time it will be artwork on the screen, no different from having a picture above the sofa. I think it solves the problem of having a seldom-used tv in a room with very little floor space. When I do use it as a tv, I'll watch from my new chair, which will be my reading chair as well. chispa I thought it was normal to have a matching sofa & chair, and then an accent chair. Is this not the case? Or maybe it's having two unmatched chairs together on one side of the room that you suggest would not look right? My husband likes the existing chair and finds it comfortable, so I think we'll keep the set intact. I could get another the same, but it would be quite crowded on that short wall (we've measured). Yes, we're excited for the TV and will be sure to get the 2022 model! Lyn Nielson I'm afraid having the sofa in front of the window is not an option; husband has always been dead set against it, and I'm not crazy about it either. It's a Frame TV, so it will look like a painting above the sofa 99% of the time. It connects by a very small, almost invisible wire to a control box that will be hidden behind the sofa. Sorry, but I can't picture what you mean by pull the club chair forward/ have to walk by it to use the stairs.
