Sometimes you just have to wonder 'why'.
Comments (9)In about 1980 or 1981, Texas had a horrible heat wave. The temps did not go under 100 degrees for something like 27 days. Although we lived in the southwest area of Dallas, & driving was torture, one night after work my roommate wanted to go to Prestonwood Mall, about a 45 minute drive. She was insistent. We hadn't been in that air-conditioned mall 5 minutes before someone called, "Evie!" It was an old classmate from her high school in Clovis, New Mexico! ........ ........ An old friend told me that she sometimes has those spur-of-the-moment changes of, uh, plan? heart? mind?, but hers are usually of the dodge-the-bullet variety. She thinks maybe it's her guardian fairy angel godmother. One day, she said her car "just turned in to Baskin-Robbins", she didn't know why. So she & went in & bought a carton of milk. might as well... Got back in the car, resumed her journey, & saw, less than a minute down the road, a car just like hers smashed into a tractor-trailer rig. The paramedics were cutting away the car to get the driver out. still gives me chills....See MoreWhat have you shoveled that you now miss?
Comments (30)Once I make a decision, I do not like to think about any sacrifice I have made. However, when I sprayed, I grew: Mr. Lincoln, Veteran's Honor, Christian Dior, Europeana, Olympiad, and another red I cannot remember now. I had a white circle in the middle of my front yard with Prairie Star, and many flowers inside the circle. Then in front of the house, I had Europeanas and Olympiads. Possibly I had about 7 reds together after a circle of about 10 Prairie Stars. I liked that effect, and now that I do not spray, there are not large roses that have that drama. I do not want to spray, and I want to grow roses, so I learned to dismiss those roses that needed special care, and learn to really love the older roses that had a different (but safer) drama. I miss the old, but love the new. When I see the words, Veteran's Honor, I have fond memories, but now I think of Cramoisi Superieur, Ducher, and my very special SDLM's -- about 9 or 10 of them. I also miss those days when the children were at home, but appreciate their lives now, and have moved on to a different type of lifestyle. I guess this is TMI, but we can always appreciate what we don't have. This is a nice thread for us to dream about what we had, and think about what we now have. Sammy...See MoreShowerhead (+ Cust. Comments (2)[ooooh, can I enable Red once again?] Red, you know I had to be a bit skeptical about all this! [Mr Vix remains skeptical blah blah blah nothing wrong with old one. Has he showered at home vs gym since I installed? No!] Neatitems does have a return/exchange policy that seemed fair, so that helped me get off ye olde caboose and just choose. Let me tell you, the Danze soaks my also-thick, nearly shoulder-length hair VERY quickly -- and thus gets out the shampoo/conditioner much faster. Honestly if I weren't in there lingering my showers would be speedier. If you want rainshower, you might want to take a look at the Aussie showerhead too (I've seen it on other sites, but NI does sell). It's the same spray intensity, and it comes in 3.5" and 6" and has a lot of testimonials there. I just liked the vintage vibe of the Danze a smidge better! If you want mega-powerful, the Giessdorf 6 or 8 Jet may be your best bet. [I think you need a strong shower arm for them, though -- I got the 6 for use on half the strong dual arm and that sucker is HEAVY!] IME Christina's great re: emails so if you're wavering, I'd say contact her. Feel free to tell her a now-happy Oregonian sent ya. Let me know if you enter the Blissful Shower Zone, ha! Comments (44)I'm wondering if he just used a very unfortunate choice of words to express the idea that it takes him time to do an estimate and that's a loss if you're a casual inquirer. Is the same as the "qualifying" process idea, but any craftsman, designer or similar person just has to have some kind of sequence of involvement that they can rely on that saves them time but still attracts new customers. I don't know how this works, of course, since the problem is, with many such efforts, you can't come up with an accurate estimate unless you know most of what you're being asked to do, so if it takes you 30 min, even, to figure that out, and you do that several times daily, and the return is low, you're broke. If someone is well-established in a fairly high end business, he might well charge a fee just to talk and see your wish list and give an estimate, and then that cost will be applied if you buy. For cabinetry, I would wonder if the person could have any kind of brochure or book of work with some example prices, even if price range was kinda broad and there were multiple disclaimers about "prices subject to change". I mean, you might be trying to figure out whether a custom built-in hutch costs $3k or $30 k, or whatever. My point is just that, it would be more straightforward to be told it'll cost me to sit down with the guy and get an estimate, since that is just the business of how he values his time, and that would not be offensive, as I can then make my decision about whether I value it the same amount, and includes the sensible idea that people agree on fees before doing any level of business, compared to the "if you have to ask" approach....See MoreMeyermike(Zone 6a Ma.)
