Time of year you can start Conifer seeds.

Can anyone share what time of year Conifer seed can be germinated inside the house?

Not really 'greenhouse conditions' in my basement but I have lights for the trays and by then it's around 60dF down there.

I know it will be a long time before I would be able to put them outdoors but is there an advantage to germinating seeds a month or two early, say mid March? Does that give them a head start? So that by end of April, I could start putting them outside?

My frost free marker is June 1st but we many times have beautiful spring weather all of May, sometimes in the 70's. I just might have to cover them or bring them inside if the threat of frost happens.

What do you tree growers do?
