Poll:If cost wasn't an issue which cabinet paint would you choose
Comments (13)FPE. Well...you DID ask for the best...;-)! "Be careful what you wish for..." Yes, it's pricey. I've had my hands in it, sampled it, and therefore used it @ home. It IS NOT normal paint. * We're talkin' "Four Seasons Maui" vs. the Holiday-Inn kinda difference...except FPE is a little cheaper...;-) (We were lucky enough to stay @ the Four Seasons last June) * Your paint cost will increase SOME. So what? The added value, durability, & appearance will outweigh a few $$'s. * Just as proof...my setup for my downstairs bath...my fave C2-One primer, and the Euroqt. of FPE Matte, which cost $45 delivered. Walls were washed with powdered Dirtex. Faron...See Moreshow me what you have above your kitchen cabinets!
Comments (17)My kitchen is very light-filled, as I have large windows on 2 sides of it and a window wall in the connecting family room. I also have high wood ceilings with beams and carved corbels, so unlike Beekeeperswife (gorgeous kitchen BTW!), I wanted to add decorative things above my cabs to draw the eye up to the ceiling detail. This hood over my cooktop is the main focal point (other than the mountain views out my windows). Although I didn't have them when I took the above pic, I now have two of these large green pots on the cabs flanking the hood. I like that they're rather simple, as they don't compete with the hood, but do add pops of color up there. In the far, formerly boring corner, I painted this antique window to resemble those at the famous "Inn at The End of The Santa Fe Trail", the La Fonda Hotel on the Plaza in Santa Fe. And, on another wall, above my fridge and ovens, I have these pots, chunky candles and angel santos. There's built-in lights up there, too, to light all of my things at night. Comments (26)Ok. I feel I should clarify somethings, as I posted earlier about my cabinets without doors, and I agree that seldom used items sitting in the cabinets above my fridge, and to a lesser extent the stove, get a little filmy after time - and that is why I replaced the never-used fridge items with 4 early 1950's empty canisters....BUT I hadn't been up there in a year, and even if there were doors, contents would have been filmy. I Don't have much of an issue with other open upper cabinets. -------- I think a lot may have to do with how one cooks. A lot of frying or sauteing? I would NEVER have them open. I also live alone, and eat a lot of soups and salads, microwaved vegetables and so forth. I don't have a whole lot on display, on the open upper shelves - only a few larger not often used pieces, as I'm pretty short, but it's easy to take those few items down to wipe them now and then. I used to have to rinse out seldom used pieces when I HAD doors....See MoreHave you used your house crown moulding for your kitchen cabs?
Comments (4)I did. I have a kitchen that is part of one large open space with the breakfast room and the family room. I wanted to take the cabinets to the ceiling and not lose the crown in the rest of the space. We couldn't figure out any way to transition, and I didn't have a different look I had to have on the cabinets, so we pulled the crown in the kitchen down, put the cabinets up, painted new crown to match and put it up. The crown is stacked and about 6" high, so it would be similar to the one above wrapping all the way around -- not smaller over the window. The main cabinets are white, but we have a contrasting wall with a blue finish. I was a little unsure of how it would look there, but I think it looks really good both matching and contrasting....See MoreSteph
