Looking for front door awning ideas
Comments (0)2 years ago we bought a 1952 stone cottage. unfortunately over the front door is an ugly aluminum awning. we want to replace it with something more fitting of the rest of the house. we just had a new roof put on, and its exacerbating how ugly the awning is. we'd like of course for the new structure to provide rain cover. we are considering a pergola design and growing vines...any ideas would be great..ive posted a picture of the front of the house Here is a link that might be useful: Picture of house/awning...See MoreIdeas for a front door color
Comments (4)Thanks for the compliments and the feedback. I'm happy to leave it black if you think it still looks good - I didn't even think about it working well with the roof color. I'm so terrible at decisions - you don't want to know how many paint samples we went through before we chose the base color for the house! Let me know if anyone has any other great ideas for the color, though, we don't have to finalize the decision for another week or so....See MoreLaminate plywood fronts&doors for midcentury modern look. Comments (9)Is that real brick? It almost looks like some kind of panel made to resemble brick. If it is real, often they just did a thin veneer of brick on only a portion of the house to save money (as if we'll never see the house from the sides? what were they thinking?) Either way they can be removed/ replaced with more harmonious / congruous siding.... whenever it comes time to paint, not right now. If you do a pergola or new porch, keep it simple and in harmony with modest post WW2 1950s style. Your house is not the early 1900s or craftsman-esque style pictured above, and houses start looking like frankenstein houses when they have too many styles from different eras cobbled together. You should find that a lot of contemporary style will mesh quite nicely with your house - since it draws so heavily from that era. The conventional wisdom is to live in the house for a year before doing anything irreversible, but I dont that applies to tacked-on temporary things like awnings and such. Have fun!...See MoreDenita
