If privacy is no issue would you not have window treatments?
Comments (48)I'd still have something on the bedroom windows in order to make it sure the room was dark at night, and to provide a level of dimness during the day if I wanted to take a nap. It might be a room-darkening roller blind that would pretty much disappear when it was up, but there'd be something on the window. Any first floor bedrooms or bathrooms would also have something to provide privacy. Even if random passers by aren't able to look in those windows, family members who are outside might be able to. My cousin's first floor bathroom has nothing on the windows and I've checked and you can get an eyeful if you are in the right place in the back yard at the wrong time. It doesn't bother her family, but it does bother me. Other rooms might need something for light control during the day--a TV room might need something over the windows to control glare. A large room with high ceilings and a hard surface floor might need more fabric in the room to prevent an echo-y feeling and window treatments would help with that. And there's the fact that the right window treatments can aid in keeping the house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, helping to save energy and reducing energy costs. So I guess for me, window treatments where they aren't needed for privacy would be on a case by case basis, because there are reasons other than privacy to need something on your windows....See MoreShorter Curtains?
Comments (17)Hi again S-G. Ramble away! It's funny about the "best friends" thing. I had always soothed myself saying that when they built the new one outside my kitchen window, it would probably be because "my new best friend" was going to move in. Funny how you and I think alike! Well, the house on the other side of us just sold, the one that is not so in my face. Turns out that person and I have so many interests n common it's almost scary. So, what I am wondering is if I get to wish for two new best friends or not... It is getting to be Fall here. After the terribly dry summer, the leaves seem to be turning sooner usual. But, what do I know? I have only been here full-time a few years, and I am not a keeper of garden records and the like. I really should be better about that. I see you opened your kitchen up to the TKOs! :-) I'll keep an eye out and see what they say....See MoreWindow treatment challenge- pix
Comments (8)Thank you for input! Yes, solid lined drapes that meet in the corner with a larger return at the edges so view isn't blocked is what I also envision. My sewing skills are not up to lined drapes that homemaker wisely suggested but perhaps I can enlist my sister-in-law when my budget allows for this project. We will live with it as is for now but you will hear more from me as we progress - the entire house needs GW input on rugs, furniture placement and colors Thanks everyone!...See MoreCurtains/window treatments challenge
Comments (1)If you are going to use drapes, you will need to hang them at the same spot on each window or it will look odd. I would do fabric shades on each window area. The fabric will give you the softness you want, but eliminate the issues with the beam....See MoreRelated Professionals
