An old one from Reader's Digest so many decades ago, if I can recall it correctly.

A family always seemed to have an issue when they went on vacation. They'd pack the luggage and stow it in the car, lock up the house, load everyone in and drive down the road several miles when Mom would declare, "Oh no! I think I left the iron on!" Back they'd go to unlock the house and check the iron, only to find it was fine. Finally, on the next driving trip, they went through the same process, car packed, house locked, everyone loaded in, down the road several miles when Mom declares, "Oh no! I think I left the iron on!" Dad pulls over to the side of the road, goes into the trunk, comes back and hands Mom the iron.
