The room can seat 8 around that table but with the unit in there it has been tight. The room is around 10 x 10.

You need 36-42" between the edges of the table and the walls or furniture around the room. Get out the measuring and painter's tapes and see what size table your room can handle. That will give you space for chairs to scoot out, be sat in and for people to exit the table without others having to rise and push their chairs in to let them pass.

Take away that mirror because the shape makes your ceiling look very low

IMO a 10 x10 room cannot handle a buffet,is that measurement including the indent where the buffet is now? I think that table base is very dated , maybe a round table 48” that can if needed expand to an oval in a pinch or just a glass top in 48” Get a pedestal base that will allow better seating than legs. Art to me is always better than a mirror in a DR. I like drapes in DRs they give the space a sense of elegance.
