Samsung has definitely received mixed reviews and from family / friends who have purchased these, I personally would steer clear.

With all those doors and the separation between the two freezer "sections", I'm curious how much storage space is lost. I cook a lot in bulk: soups, tomato sauce, etc, so that would not work for me... but all depends on what works for your family.

Doors are a PIA. You want drawers below. It’s just a fancy Haier, built by the Chinese government.

The F&P's ice maker is in the lower left freezer compartment—it only dispenses water through the door.

live_wire_oak isn't wrong about the inconvenience of doors-behind drawers, which is what you get with a quad, but if you don't need much freezer space that variable temperature zone quadrant is pretty appealing. If I could accommodate a 36" fridge in my kitchen plan, I'd go for the F&P quad door.

As I have found out BEWARE the icemaker/water filter hook up on the FP !! I called them yesterday and some of their models do have a way of hooking up the water filter so that it is IN the refrigerator proper. My model doesn't and boy has it turned out to be a giant pain. Finding out after the fact that it has to be in a cabinet next to the fridge or in our case in the BASEMENT below the fridge with its own spigot is a huge inconvenience. Also their trained personnel are tech/repair personnel ....NOT installers. BIG difference so good luck with install . All you can do is wait till you have a problem then you can get warranty service from the trained tech...sigh.

I have had an FP French door counter depth fridge for about 6 months with no issues. BUT I avoided the ice maker/filtered water feature in any refrigerator I researched - they seem to be problematic in many brands. It does have a great freezing compartment (drawer type). Were I looking again, there’s a new Bosch out now that wasn’t available when I bought FP that I would consider. I would probably pass on Samsungs due to their mixed reviews.

Comparing the two choices, the FP has 18.9 cu ft storage space vs the Samsung with 22.5 cu ft. So the Samsung wins on that point with almost 4 cu ft more interior space.

Aforementioned Bosch has 21 cu ft of storage.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the advertised volume of fridges for comparison purposes. Per Consumer Reports those figures can be inflated by over 30% of the actual usable space. They measure it without “shelves, removable partitions, containers, automatic ice makers and interior light housings.”

We were looking at fridges yesterday, and the salesman at our best appliance store says that the quality of Fisher and Paykel has gone up if anything because Haier is letting FP do their own thing, but is putting more money into development to keep it their high end brand. He didn’t speak very highly of Samsung at all.

Currently considering Bosch vs Fisher & Paykel refrigerators or possibly going to Sub Zero or Hestan. I really don't want to spend the money for a SZ or Hestan. I really just want a counter depth refrigerator that will be reliable and last. We have used our FP FD counter depth with ice maker for a year now. Works amazingly well and I never know when it cycles on/ off even sitting a few feet away as it is extremely quiet. Love the open door alarm !

Food definitely stays fresher way longer than any other fridge I’ve ever had.

One must get used to deep bins in the freezer which are definitely a PITA. the freezer holds small things easily if they are all uniform sizes but it’s not efficient at all if you want to store much so beware. The ice maker is great and works well but in Summer with guests we had to buy ice regularly as it is quite slow even with the “ burst” feature.

Our renovation got pushed back due to the pandemic and permit delays but I think we've ultimately decided to go with the new Cafe Quad door, which wasn't even available last year. Will see how it goes but I'm excited. We're supposed to start in March.

@User, your review is so helpful. Thank you! Have you noticed any issues with denting or scratching on the doors? I've noticed some reviewers commenting the doors are easily dented or scratched. Also, do you think some of the hard, clear, acrylic food storage boxes for frig and freezer would help with the freezer bin storage issue? I've used some I purchased on amazon in a top freezer frig I used in a temporary home.

@JJ Mekai there haven’t been any issues with the SS doors except smears! Haha. I guess we are just very messy. We have 3 grands who are always against it or touching and running against it and other than hand smears it’s still pristine after a year.

I don’t think the boxes will work as they take up too much room. I’ll post some pics after this post.

Did you get the quad door Café in the platinum glass? If so, how are you liking it overall in general? As far as functionality do you think it works well, or is this more of a purchase for esthetics?

Is the lower left hand freezer compartment actually usable and a good enough size that this would be sufficient as the only freezer so the lower right compartment could be used as a beverage center or fridge? I am not certain how the left hand freezer compartment is organized or set up (can't find a model to see in person).

@julieste I did buy it, although given how long construction takes I've only been using it for about six weeks (and I'm still waiting on backordered counters oh well). That said, I absolutely LOVE it. It does look gorgeous and some of the features like autofill are a bit gimmicky but I like using it The big thing is that this fridge has SO much room. Previously I had a side by side and a fridge downstairs that was full and I don't even need the fridge or freezer down there anymore. They are totally empty. That said I do use both compartments for freezer. I have a ton of empty space though so could probably fit it on one side but it might be a bit tight. the things I keep on the left are really the frozen meats I keep, so its going to depend how much you freeze. Its probably a bit more full after one of my Trader Joes runs but I dont think I'll ever need to convert because the fridge holds so much. The left has a wine rack but I find I can stack frozen pizza boxes on that, along with a shelf and 2 drawers. Its all so deep! I think there is a pic on the website, but understand seeing it in person is better. I bought it sight unseen (although I saw the platinum glass version with the pull out freezer and am sooo glad I did. I totally recommend it. And I was a bit worried that the platinum glass wouldnt look nice with the other ss appliances but it looks fantastic.

Thank you so so much for the extensive feedback and the photos. I too have been able to see the drawer and pull out freezer platinum glass version in person and am debating between the two models (or the GE Profile which is the same basic fridge as the drawer model except with a few design variations). I too am someone who much prefers to be able to actually get my hands on a model before buying so I can pull everything out and see how it feels and works.

If I can bug you again, I have a couple more questions:

Since you saw the version with the flex drawer and the pull out freezer in person, why did you choose this quad door model instead?

I guess having a deli drawer was something you didn't have in a side by side so you can't comment on whether you wish you had one. I am used to having one, and it gets a lot of use. I know some reviewers of this quad fridge have mentioned that they miss having one.

If you have a few minutes can you measure the interior width and depth of one of the freezer side drawers?

Is there anything you have discovered thus far that you don't particularly like about this fridge?

I really like the idea of this fridge but since this will be my only fridge (no option for any sort of extra second fridge anywhere in our place) I am debating about exactly which features in a fridge I need the most. It's also very reassuring to hear you say that this has a huge capacity.

@julieste interior in freezer drawers are 13 wide by 18 deep and the heights vary. I knew from beginning I didn’t want a bottom freezer drawer. Any time I’m at my inlaws and have one I feel like I’m constantly searching and digging through the entire freezer for anything I need. If this didn’t come out I was going to get a Samsung quad despite what I heard about potential ice maker issues. Actually had it on order and then my Reno was pushed a year because of covid and in that time this Cafe fridge came out.

I do miss the deli drawer but I got a plastic bin which I use to hold my cheese and that seems to do the job.

So far there is nothing I don’t love.

This is really a glowing review for the fridge. I also appreciate you taking the photos and measuring the freezer drawers. I am going to try to play around a bit to replicate the size of those drawers so I can see if they will suffice for my needs.

Sorry, I don’t have an FP quad door fridge so can’t comment on it. I do have an FP counter depth French door fridge and it’s been fine. No problems at all. I did get one without ice maker or filtered water and don’t miss them. I do like the counter depth a lot - I have a small kitchen so every square inch counts! Plus I just prefer having one that doesn’t stick way out like my old one did. Good luck in choosing what works best for you!

Competitors with similar designs to the Fisher Paykel RF203QDUVX1 ($3,700) are the Whirlpool WRQA59CNKZ ($2,160), Beko BFFD3626SS ($2,850), and Samsung RF23A9671SR ($3,510) all of which claim greater refrigerator and freezer capacities, and approximately the same dimensions.

@wdccruise The fridges are similar. However, whirpool does not offer, water, not sure if door shelves are adjustable. Beko, unfortunately, not available in canada.

Stay away from the Fisher Paykel quad door fridge! If I don't keep all my food on the bottom shelf they go moldy (YES moldy) in very little time. Technician has been out and of course can't see what is wrong. What is wrong is that their Active Smart technology is pretty dumb indeed. I believe the cold air is not distributed properly due to poor design of cold air outlets. I keep highly perishable foods upstairs in a bar fridge! That's insane after what I paid for the FP. Stay away is my advice.

No they refuse to address the issue. I bought the fridge from TASCO Appliances and they are not helping me at all. They keep emailing me the same message over and over again asking me if the issue has been resolved! I will never buy another FP product again. I have asked repeatedly for them to install a data collector in order to determine that the fridge has an intermittent problem of cooling/not cooling. Like talking to a wall. So disappointing

You can buy an inexpensive data collector such as the Elitech RC-5 for $22. You can export and graph the data collected.

We just purchased a quad FP. Makes like 2 batches of ice in 10 hours. Is that normal?

Maybe check if you have the ice boost setting turned on? That would trigger it to make more ice than it otherwise would. Otherwise, it should only be making more ice if it senses that the ice bin is empty.
