Bedding vs Curtain Dilemma
Comments (3)White linen curtains go with anything. Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma carry nice ready-made linen curtains. The linen sheers are on sale at PB now. You can embellish them with trim if you want some color. Also, replace the white blinds with woven wood or bamboo shades for some texture....See MoreGuest Bedroom Design Dilemma
Comments (16)Congratulations on your new home! I have, like others who have responded to your post, had considerable luck with garage sales, estate sales, and thrift shops. Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Goodwill, Salvation Army, and St. Vincent de Paul can all be good sources for furniture and housewares. Nextdoor can be a good source for free or reasonably priced items (I know this from experience; others have had success with Craigslist and/or Freecycle, but I have not bought anything on either of those sites). Discount stores (Target, Walmart, and the like) can be fruitful, as can IKEA (you may want to check reviews of products on the internet before buying). I have even had some luck in finding items that have been placed at curbside or next to dumpsters for disposal but happened to be just what I needed for a particular purpose. Be wary of used cushions and pillows, as they may harbor vermin; if you buy such items used, have them cleaned thoroughly. Create idea books, but set a realistic budget and stick to it....See MoreDesign dilemma - deck design pattern
Comments (9)Prefer either the gray or the color left of the gray for decking. If at all possible, keep the deck one level. Decide on your deck color before deciding on any color for the art frames. Is a rectangle the only option for shape? Could you wrap your deck around a corner so you have sun/shade option?...See MoreFireplace design - Cottage addition design dilemma :)
Comments (8)Please ignore the 'pro' debby downer, who can't seem to say anything positive about anything. IMO! Will the paneling be vertical or horizontal? I really like the stone to the ceiling in your rendering. If you imagine what will go above the mantel (no tv but likely you will need large artwork because of the scale), if you stop the stone and do paneling above the mantel, then add art on that, you'll get a bit of a chopped up look - 3 materials (stone, wood, art) instead of just 2 (stone, art). I also think it will look nice from the upper floor to have the stone all the way up. If you hang art above the mantel, I don't think the tall stone look as imposing; above the painting will not be dominating, as your eyes will focus on the art and the fire. I've been looking for inspiration pics with cedar paneling and stone fireplaces on a vaulted wall, but they are hard to find....See Moreqljanice
