Bathroom Makeover

I’ve painted bathrooms before but now I’m going a step further and redoing the floors. I’m removing the toilet which is fine but the vanity is where I am a newbie. I’ve worked with bigger vanities where I could remove the top first but this skinny sink/vanity is new territory for me. Any helpful ideas or tips?

What is your question? That is not a vanity it is a pedestal sink that may or may not be one piece.

Sorry forgot to put the actual question in there. My question is once I remove that, I want to put in a vanity with a cabinet and top. I’ve found one with similar top measurements for the sink. Is removing and installing as simple as replacing one vanity for another or would this be different because it’s just a sink

The photo shows the former renters' things like your bedroom post, right? Since you are renting, spend your money on things that can go with you. If you want it to look "somewhat expensive", pick a quiet color scheme for shower curtain, towels and bath mats. White, blue, or brown would be fine. If you must add storage such as a wall-hung cabinet, make sure it has closed doors, and get written permission from the landlord before drilling installation holes in the wall. The finish should match the vanity (white). Keep everything put away in drawers except for soap in a pretty soap dispenser (not plastic) on the counter. Replace the burned out light bulb and the other two bulbs with identical bulbs to avoid uneven lighting. Add an orchid to the counter if you want some greenery. Rotate it with a fresh one when it finishes blooming.

You'll likely need to do some light plumbing work if the new sink drain is in a different location (meaning re-work the drain pipe and trap). Not too hard, you can get PVC parts at hardware store or big box store. Just do some reading on code, there can't be too many bends or pieces between the sink and the wall, and S-traps are not legal anymore. Other than that just reattach the water hot and cold supply lines according to the directions on your new faucet.
