I would paint the DR the same color as the LR to unify the spaces. Your current rug is a good size and does a good job of tying in the beige and gray. I would look for a console to place under the t.v. to ground it. It should be about 25% larger than the t.v. Bring the sofa on the right just a smidge closer to the one by the windows to close the gap. A nice square end table with lamp will help fill the corner. As far as a coffee table, I'd do something in glass and metal so you can see the medallion design in the rug. Adding a few well chosen accessories and some art work will help complete the space.

Why can you only paint the dining room and not the living room? I think your problem is the orange-ish beige with cool grey in your sofa and the colors of your rug. If you painted the living room the same color that you currently have in your dining room, your rug, sofas, and pillows would look great. I'd get some end tables, a coffee table, and an arm chair for the corner of the rug closest to the dining room. Perhaps a console or buffet type piece for under your TV.

The TV needs to be mounted lower and above a cabinet, I like the sofas but not the 100 pillows. Paint is what you need and the DR and LR should be the same color , in fact I would remove that weird trim around the doorway.

If you want the wall color and the sofa color to work together you can help the eye blend the warm and cool combination by getting some pillows and wall decor with gray and tan. Spread both colors around the room with accessories - vases, trays, etc.

If you are going to eventually paint, take a look at SW accessible beige. It's a light neutral greige that will look nice with your warm floors and cool gray sofa.

The room also needs some height changes. Right now it is all horizontal lines and it emphasizes the clash between the sofa and walls.

Curtains, tv console with accessories, end tables with lamps, art etc will all help the room pull together.

Everything is so helpful please keep the advice/suggestions open. As you can tell this def needs help. All I want is a cozy welcoming LR/DR and the feeling isn’t there.

Reason why I don’t want to paint living room right now - the room extends all the way down the hallway and above front entrance way. We just got a puppy and it will be very difficult/time consuming right now. At least the DR is one closed off room easy to paint in a few hours.

Your rug works. It's the right size, has a fresh pattern and combines the tan and gray nicely. Wooden coffee and end tables, with a stain similar to the floor stain, would help ground the space and add warmth.

It’s not a nightmare, it’s just not finished. The dining room looks tight. You need a piece of furniture under the tv. Try the dining sideboard under the tv. Solves both issues. Also, the living room wants a coffee table.

Paint the living room the same color you currently have in the dining room.

Your rug works with the couch, and it also works with the color of the dining room. The dining room color would work very well in your living room. It is the beige that is throwing everything off. Its the living room that needs painting, not the dining room. In the dining room, I would paint that white table and chairs black, or a much darker color. Then add color to both rooms for accent colors in pillows, etc. Black coffee and end tables would add a lot to the living room too. It may be easier to paint the dining room, but, it wont solve your problems in the living room. Its still beige, and it still doesnt work. I love your couch, and your rug. Good choices.

Wait, paint it all when you can, and remove the little decor pieces in the passageway, also paint that trim the wall color.

Turn your rug the other way, and put the sofas across from each other. peel some colors you like out of the rug for curtains. Shop for the console table you want, coffee and end tables. Also what do you have for artwork. Get all the pieces you need to complete the room, that will help you come to a conclusion on a paint color..

Everything is beautiful except the wall color. Change it :) I would pull a new wall color from the deeper tones of your rug. Then you will have perfection.
