Some of the doorways in our house have casings and others don’t. We have installing casings on the entryways between rooms for consistency and to add a little character to our house. The casing is appx 3 inches wide. The entry way to the kitchen has very little wall space next to it (one side is 2.5 inches to the countertop and one side is appx an inch to the wall). The doorway in front of it will have casing. The other entrances to the kitchen will not have casings (large openings due to an addition and open concept space).

So, should the kitchen door have casing too, even though it will be cut down quite a bit?

No, don’t add casings.
Yes, add casings to the kitchen entryway.
