Wood/wood like flooring choices: Please help us decide on a plan
Comments (19)Skeeter: We do want real wood but the reality is that we are on a budget and are trying to look ahead some. We could do real wood and have a 1.5 inch height difference w/out raising the other floor height but that wouldn't work well over all: we don't think it would work right and if we ever move in either of our aging parents then it becomes a tripping haazard. We could raise the level of the other floors but again that isn't really cost efficient unless tile can be raised that much using thinset mortar which I don't think can. Engineered wood floors seem like our best option. I like the look: some of the better ones look no different than solid wood. I've read that they wear well, too. But again we would not be able to use the nail down type or we will end up in the same situation that the solid wood floors would pose. We are going to have to find a good quality glue down or floating engineered floor....See MoreNewbie Needs Help--Which Do you Like Better?
Comments (18)As a jumping off point I say 3. If you feel that you are eveloping and learning about your style then you have a good jumping off point to let it evolve and create over time. Maybe put that fruit basket on the DR table to help 'disperse' the matchy-matchiness of it. Heck - when I started decorating I would have bought a package deal in a heartbeat. I guess for some people we need to have 'something' in the beginning to get a handle or grasp on who we are when it comes to decorating and then we learn and begin to feel comfortable w/ our decisions and waiting w/ 'nothing there' until we know that just the right thing has come along. And then there are those folks who really like decorating but prefer 'a package deal' for whatever reason.n Nothing wrong w/ those folks either - I just ask that they really think and put thought into getting a package that speaks to them....See MorePlease vote - which granite do you like more with my cabinets?
Comments (54)This is sort of like asking what everyone's favorite ice cream is...but I really like the first one best. I think it has a quiet elegance about it with your cabinets and you could have more fun with the backsplash and accessories. To my eye, the second one is too mustardy, but then I did everything I could to keep from getting a lot of yellow in my granite, while I am sure there are others here who strove for that as a goal. So I guess I'm not much help... P.S. I laughed when I read your comment about your husband getting tired of all the indecisiveness and losing the will to live. My husband and I were in Lowes and I was stressing over picking out door hardware...Paul kept telling me to "hurry up and pick something out and let's go!" Finally I snapped back at him and said something like "Just because YOU don't care if the kitchen looks like it was thrown together without any thought... well I do!" Then he said "It only took me fifteen seconds to pick out the garbage disposal!" At which point, I almost pushed him down in the hardware aisle and I spat "Dear God, no one SEES the #@*# garbage disposal!" That was the closest we have come to actual remodeling violence, but I just had to share... Good luck on the counters and have fun! :) Cathy...See MoreHELP! Which rug do you like?
Comments (10)I like the one that is on the left in your first pic and on the chair in your third pic. (ETA: The one Beverly circled.) I don't particularly like the terra cotta against your floor color, and I would like to see more pattern in the middle of the rug....See MoreRedRyder
