Filling gaps between countertop and range
My slide in range is flush with the countertop in some areas but not others. Also there is a gap between wall and back since I have a gas appliance connector running behind (still waiting for HOA approval to break the wall and run a gas pipe behind the wall).
What is the best way to fill the gaps in the side of the countertops? I see this Whirlpool filler kit in Home Depot www.homedepot.com/p/206480904. If you have experience using one of these, would love to get your feedback.
For the back, I suspect I may need something wider than the above kit. Will have to see how much gap is left after I install backsplash. If a gap filler has worked well for you for patching an ~1in in the back, would appreciate the info. Perfect one would be something whose width can be trimmed and just hangs on to the countertop.

Comments (5)deannagv: Nice looking project, but yes, a few of the gaps are a concern. Here's my suggestions- 1. Gaps 5, 4 and part of 3 should be covered by backsplash- I know you said that you are only running splash on the wall where gap 5 is, but I would wrap splash around the corner so it will cover gap 4. This (IMHO) will look more finished- regardless of whether there was a gap 4 & 3 or not. I would also do a splash on the left side to balance the "look". 2.Can the upper be shifted at all to split the difference in the size of the gaps between the stone and the walls, or is it set? the 3/8" gap is (again IMHO) a bit wide, however, it can be filled with polyester and colored to match the stone (IF you have a competant Fabricator and Install crew that HAS the skill sets to do that). 3.Re-making anything is the last resort, especially if there's no more stone left - IF there is enough material, this is a possible option, but I would give your Fabricator an honest chance to remedy the situation first - without having to resort to re-fabbing anything (unless of course HE brings it up first). In that case then, I'd let him remake the upper - it's easier to make something bigger and trim it down on the jobsite, as opposed to making it shorter and having to rely on the "stone stretcher" to solve the problem... ;-) 4. It's not unusual for gaps to exist between walls and stone - remember that homes "breathe" throughout the year, and your walls & cabinets will expand and contract at a different rate as opposed to the stone, so caulk joints are a fact of life in any application, however, 3/8" is a bit wide for my taste My .02 cents worth kevin Kevin M. Comments (3)There are different widths of T squares; you can get them in stainless. I have white (bcs I have white stove & counter). I bought a set at Bed Bath & Beyond, and they were too wide (narrow clearances); I ended up ordering them from Home Trends catalog or Improvements catalog or some company like that. I like them, bcs I can remove them to clean any drips that have run off the edge. Comments (6)When we had our house built we put in a Vulcan pro range. The Building inspector made us leave about an inch gap between the range and the cabinets. The formica cabinets are flush with the cabinets as well. They also made us put metal flashing on the sides of the cabinets. Over the years a lot of stuff has fallen down, but we try to keep it clean. I'm sure we'll be shocked when we finally pull the range out this month to install a new range hood and take of the tiles that have been there for 20 years. Ew! I am thinking when we have new granite put in, we can have that installed closer to the stove and help solve the stuff falling in issue. At least with a 1" gap, most stuff didn't get stuck. Comments (6)GreenDesigns - the OP may be replacing a range in an older kitchen, in which the cabinetry has been hung for some time. Let's come up with a solution to help her instead of leaping with eagerness to criticize. To the OP - if that Wolf side trim kit works to solve your problem right away, I would go with that. The alternative is to have a stainless steel piece made to fit, so you could explore that. In the meanwhile, how many thousands did you spend for the Wolf range?? 4 years ago@ci_lantro this how the back looks now. After seeing how well the painters patched things up, I am thinking of using a 4in backsplash matching the counters and a 12 in behind the range. Other option is to use 12in tile everywhere. I suspect the gap behind the stove will be covered either way. But may put in a filler to be sure.
@joseph thanks for the tip about the level. Looking at the gap again, the difference in gap width may be due to front being of different material. The Costco delivery guy did not really too many checks. Will go through the user guide and see what are the options available.
