Although the bookshelves are nice next to the fireplace, I feel that it takes away from the fireplace being the focal point of the room. It looks too busy. I would remove them and bring your blue chairs closer to the fireplace. In my opinion less is more. Of course, I am not a pro... I’m a minimalist. Again, they look fine and fit the space, I just feel like it looks too busy. I would add some real greenery like a fiddle fig leaf tree to the corner where your chair currently is. You can add nice artwork that speaks to you above the mantle. You seem to like plants and nature (from what I see on your shelves) so I’ve included a painting that I’m currently thinking of purchasing in my dining room.

Thanks for the feedback - I appreciate it!! I only have one blue chair and it feels very narrow in here which is why I have the bookshelves flanking the fireplace but I do like the idea of having one piece of art above the fireplace. Love the picture!

This is nice & simple. I don’t have the height above the fireplace to add a vertical piece but I can add a long piece of art as was suggested in another comment. I like the piece of art that you suggested. Thanks

Yes, and maybe all you have to do to make it feel less busy is remove the window frames above the shelves. Once you get your artwork, it’ll pull it all together. You’ve decorated your shelves perfectly.

A couple of tweaks might help. Center the rug on the FP. Remove the "windows" from over the bookcases. Leave the plants on the bookcases and remove the little pictures. Remove the shelves from over the sofa, I always feel like I'll bump my head lol. Use the windows as art over the sofa or the 3 larger botanicals that are there now. Take all the smaller ones and do a gallery over the other sofa

I had a galley above the love seat and I grew tired of it rather quickly which is why I did the three botanicals and picture ledges above the sofa. I’ll try moving the windows to above the sofa and start from there. Thanks for the suggestions!!

I would move the "window" mirrors? to over the fireplace, and get something more vertical going on with the side bookcases, if you have 4 of those botanical prints, you could do 2 on each side in a vertical arrangement. or like in the sample picture, branches in a vase.

I would also get rid of those shelves above the couch and do a large picture or gallery wall there.

I also think if you want/ need the blue chair, you need some more blue in the pillows or get a rug that incorporates it, it does not seem to mesh with the rest of the room. Or getting rid of it and putting in an indoor tree or plant on a stand in that space.

I would also suggest clustering the birdcages together, or moving the one on the coffee table elsewhere, the table seems a bit small for all of the objects on it.

I think your space is lovely and you have a lot of great pieces to work with.

Your ideas make a lot of sense. Unfortunately I don’t have four of the botanical prints and they might not be big enough to put above the bookcases. I have some blue pillows that I can add to tie things together.
