My fireplace mantle needs your help. Picture
Comments (12)I'm loving all your ideas. Keep them coming! Eventually we could add a cap to the fireplace mantle (we have to finish our upstairs bathroom and library first). LOL! My chorus. Yes, it *is*. I hate the fake plants too and I just took them off. Copper trays and pottery. I'll go digging. Les, the sign used to travel back and forth between my BIL and us. Every time he needed money, he'd let us have the sign until he paid us back. Last time (many years ago) he decided he just wanted us to keep it. Well, there are two signs. One is in our bedroom and it's really nice too. The fireplace had a mirror when we moved here but we took it down. It's upstairs in a large closet now. Maybe that was a mistake. LOL! Maybe I should drop the sign down closer to the fireplace? Our ceilings are high, I think 11' but the fireplace is huge. So is the sign. Making the sign a theme for the fireplace? Interesting idea. As far as moving the sign, the problem is there are no other walls big enough and my DH loves it. Maybe when the wallpaper is gone, it may fit better. If I did a box in the center, it would have to be a pretty big box or it will disappear, don't you think? (Think 8' wide. That is what the mantle measures.) I just left my post to fix my mantle and now my entire living room is destroyed. My mantle looks no better yet but the fake plants are gone. LOL! I'm moving around stuff....See MoreFireplace Mantle decorating
Comments (34)Your fireplace looks great by itself. But I would keep the pictures on the mantle anyway. The only thing I would change is the frames and mats. Black frames are stealing attention from the pictures. Try choosing more neutral colors both for frames and mats. I think white and grey will match perfectly....See MoreFireplace mantle decor
Comments (7)I agree with Karen's comment. The TV is enough, and the things that you put there in the OP pic do not enhance the appearance, they are distracting. ETA: Ida Claire's pottery looks really good, but that is a different setup from the OP's because there is much more airy space above, below and to the sides. The pottery itself is lovely. Plus the cat for aesthetic balance :)...See Moreneed advice on finishing great room decor
Comments (125)@HomeInteriirsWithEase- I can see how that would be ideal, bc that would make the fireplace the focal put and connect the room. However, we have a complicated situation. My daughter with special needs is in the room through the doorway by the TV. We need to be able to go from the bathroom (behind the built in) to the room where she is in via a bath chair that rolls. Hence I need an easy path from that room to the bathroom. If the sofa is there, I would have to leave at least 3 ft between the wall and the sofa, it would be an awkward layout. Not to mention that the kids and DH like to watch TV from the kitchen table and that is behind the sofa. I have to make the best of the current layout. We can plan to love the fireplace when we remodel the kitchen. I ha e thought about a electric fireplace under the TV....See Morejoykatali
