Need help decorating a 2 story foyer.
Comments (26)The demilune table you have is very nice for the spot. Don't make the mistake of thinking you need to fill the whole wall just because it's tall. Try to keep things in proportion and remember to "decorate where you live". That means hanging artwork, mirrors, etc. as if your ceilings were 8 or 9 feet tall. Whatever you hang over your entry table should be about 2/3 to 3/4 the width of the table and no taller than the height of your door frames. I know it seems like there's going to be a lot of empty space, but that's okay. I moved from a 1949 cape with 7 1/2 foot ceilings to a house with 11' vaulted ceilings and had to learn that things really do look better hung at normal height. The current chandelier seems to be well proportioned for the space and hung at the right height. When you replace it, try to stay to something in that same size range. Congratulations on your new home!...See Morehelp decorate foyer
Comments (2)Let's start with what style you like, or maybe another room in the house we can kind of help understand more. For the entry, I might go with a semi-flush light so it could be a little larger in scale but not hang too low. for the rug, I would go with like a 4x6 or 5x7 maybe even round. so it fills the area a bit more and helps balance in with the staircase. I would probably put a rubber matt for shoes by the floor heater to help dry them and to keep them warm :) doesn't seem to be too much space for a table here but finding a little half-round or small side table to put by the door for keys and mail could work. This is basically just to give you an example ......See Morehelp with foyer decor
Comments (16)“I like simple elegant decor, not too busy.” To simplify the area, I’d: Remove wreath, and the decor on ledge. Put a small round table or pedestal here, possibly with a live plant on it to bring in a bit of organic interest: https://www.overstock.com/Crafts-Sewing/Evans-Iron-Pedestal/30317611/product.html https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Carson-Carrington-Bangling-Round-2-tier-End-Table/29146693/product.html Remove table from other side of door. Bigger rug. Add art, hooks, whatever on wall above pedestal. Don’t call attention to glass block by trying to cover it up with furniture. The area is busy with that and the railing above, keep things simple. If the glass can’t be changed, ignore it. Nothing on ledge, but I’d put a larger piece of art above it. A beautifully patterned rug, with subtle colors, would provide warmth and texture to all the hard lines and surfaces. (Rugs from Rejuvenation and PB, just using as examples.) So ... very minimal furniture, nice rug with warm colors in it, and keep the eye up with art on walls instead of adding more stuff below....See Morefoyer decor help
Comments (0)Help! I want to make this more warm and homey-looking. I want to make the chandelier my inspiration for decor. Other than paint, what can I do here? Looking for anything from wall decor, items on window ledge, etc....See MoreRelated Professionals
