Need new Shades/Blinds for my whole house
Comments (12)I love top-down bottom-up roman shades that I just got for my bedroom and master bath. I just moved to a condo complex with neighboring buildings so privacy is important especially in bedroom. But natural light is too. The TDBU option gives you best of both worlds. I keep TD until dressed in morning and sometimes even put the TD at night so I wake up to some daylight. However, its not a budget option! At least the hunter douglas ones that I got. Most of the shades mount on the "ceiling" of the window opening, so there is usually a little more mounting opportunity than the side jambs. The specs of each shade will give you the exact clearance you need. Graywings' picture of the outside mount is very helpful. It also reminds me that it measuring to the nth degree on an outside mount is not so critical as an inside mount. You have more fudge factor on height and on width which is important in DIY mode. Outside mount profile may be more of a concern based on the view in the particular room. Looking head on at the window won't matter much. At my last place I had wood blinds outside mounted and you entered the room from the side of that window. I wasn't crazy about the profile gap, but I didn't stress over it. I'll see if I can find a picture. [update: Actually on further reflection, what bothered me was the gap created from the curtain rod and drapes that had to extend past the blinds valance. but only an issue from the side view. something to think about.] Here I reluctantly spent the big bucks for the TDBU Roman Shades for Hunter Douglas for the bedroom/bath, but I have other rooms and will probably buy online for those, so I am interested in what responses you get on that part. Comments (23)Wow! Thanks a million for the feedback! it's priceless. Being that the photo is very underexposed due to lighting conditions(which btw i installed dimmers on the fan). thanks again. torreykm: color vs muted..if we go with color i would like to compliment the rug since its so close and muted; it's probably our safer choice. But we are open to suggestions. I like the curtains below. However, for some reason the white looked a bit plain when I installed mine. Yet, the whites you showed me here do have some nice patterns/designs. Where can I look into buying the curtain below? I really like this one. ingrid_vc so/always1: At first i thought about the same thing; round, glass and metal to make the room look bigger/small rug issue. But then I think about how delicate a glass table can be and how it sort of takes away from the cozy. But I suppose I can have it all with a small space :) aprilneverends: I am aboard with the "texture in the space", "more texture more interesting" and embrace your valid toddler analogy. My only issue is the size and perhaps it can dwarf the living room space. But my gut feeling says that the table is so nice that it won't matter. With respect to staying with the color scheme, I can always entertain the accent suggestions. Yet, we will prefer nothing flamboyant; yes we do have botanical motives. Perhaps behind/around the wicker basket area. One thing I forgot to mention is that the windows behind the verticals is a sliding door. So we would like to keep it not to busy in case I need to access my BBQ on the porch :) voila: Thanks for the comment. I promise to post a correctly exposed picture soon( as well as the end result). My wife has travels the world and has beautiful photography which we plan to mount on a large canvas to put behind the sofa. I will try to also include a panoramic view of the living space which included the dinning area where we have a nice florida/coastal style painting. lastly, thanks the curtains in JCpenny look very nice and matches our colors. I was thinking about a turquoise color as well. I will be making a stop today to look at curtains in persons as well as possibly buying the first coffee table on here by the end of the day if I don't come across any others. Keep the feedback coming. Cheers Rob...See MoreHelp Choosing a whole house color!
Comments (8)Beige is a flesh tone, with a pink hue. I think the Camel Back and the Whole Wheat are more of a golden color, and therefore versatile. Of course, the type of natural light available or the type of lighting you install can change the way they look, just as the accessories or flooring will. I like using the SW website to find complimentary colors that will blend with your choice for the walls of your house. It's nice to have walls in a tone that can work with other hues so if you want to bring in a different color of accessory or drape or upholstery it is versatile to that. I think these colors will make a variety of colors look nice, including Ruby or Garnet...there isn't a gemstone and few other stones, pearls, opals, rose quartz... that doesn't look pretty with a gold ring, for instance. :)...See MoreHelping my parents w/ whole-house remodel; 5 questions I need help on
