I remember when you were doing those renovations to the outside! It looks really great and I‘m sure you are glad to be done.

Do you need privacy in all the windows? Light blocking? I am a big fan of simple shades and found I can do pretty well having someone make them with fabric I choose. I went to a local fabric shop and they had a list of fabricators I could contact who made them for me. Just remember the lining should match on all windows, for example be white or off white, from the front view of the house.

You could also get ready-made curtains or side panels to use over bamboo shades or blinds fairly reasonably. Check various sources, even Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Wayfair, etc.

I hope someone else will weigh in who has purchased something more recently.

Hi Outside Playing. Yes, our build has been the slowest on the planet. Thank you for helping us in the past We are not done, but done with living in a fish bowl with no blinds. We are working on installing hardwood now. The kitchen cabinets go next. I seem to have champagne taste with blinds. I want light and some privacy for the main level. We have chosen top down/bottom up blackouts blinds for the bedrooms.

We are considering these sheer blinds for the main floor (pricing is in CAD) They are a less costly option to the Hunter Douglas Silhouette line. I need to do the research to see if I can get them in the US more economically and then cross the border to pick them up (we have a US address we can use).

I don't know what to do about a glass deck door that faces the front of the house. The rest of the front facing windows are getting sheer shades. I would do sheer shades installed on the outside of the door (not inside the door jams). However, to use the door we would have to hike up the blind. We don't use the door that often. These kind of doors work well with vertical blinds, but I don't think I would like all the front windows with horizontal sheer shades, and then the door with vertical lines. Any thoughts on what to do with that glass door in front (not front door, but deck door)?

For your deck door consider adding an ODL glass panel that will put blinds between the glass. These are surprisingly easy to install. Hopefully they have a size that will match your glass opening.

Zalco, I would consider curtains, but it is tucked so close to the corner, that there would be no easy way to install curtains.

Maddielee. What a great idea! Thank you for leading us to this solution. Do you think the stats come any larger than 1/2" so the gaps in between would be larger when the slats were open?

I doubt it, because the glass would protrude to far out into the room. We have 3 sets of French doors (with the blinds between the glass) at one house. A slider and a door window at our cabin with them also. The blinds are so thin that when they are down and open you really stop noticing them.

Good to know. I watched the install video, and our door does not look as easy to pry the frame open on. We have a Marvin door. It looks so all in one. We will take a closer look to see if we can detect any covered screws, but man they did a good job of concealing it. Perhaps the frame is all glued on.

I just got confirmation, that the cool product you linked, Maddielee will not be able to install over our Marvin Integrety doors. So, we are back to trying to find a shade for the door. Darn.

Check with Marvin, I’m pretty sure they can retro-fit a shade or blinds for most of their doors. Good luck.

I made some calls to Marvin. They told me there was no after sale blind for their Marvin Integrety doors (they do sell some for other doors). The also told me if I installed the Home Depot one you linked, it would void my warranty. They said their doors were sealed, so I could not pry apart the frame to add the shade/glass you linked. So, it does not look like this is an option. I think I am back to installing sheer shades on the outside of the door -- at least they will match the rest of the main level window coverings. I wish we had the option now to add door blinds like you showed, but it does not seem to be an option as far as my research has revealed.
