Furniture placement in square living/dining room
Comments (2)Just browsing and can't resist. It sounds really nice, P Swiss, as do Annie's ideas. My initial thought was that the sideboard (assuming no hutch) could be used as the base for the TV. It's pretty commonly done now and would allow some simplification. Regarding placing furniture for the view, every time you walk or glance into the living room, you'll be able to enjoy it. Perhaps including a seat or two near the windows specifically intended for enjoying it close up would do? This would allow you to arrange the rest of the furniture to optimize the room's other functions. Have you thought of having your dining there? Do you need 4 seats daily, or would a drop-leaf table that seats 2 when dropped do? A symmetrical arrangement of a table with a pair of chairs facing each other can be very charming, and inviting, in front of a window....See MoreLiving room furniture ideas and placement
Comments (7)I agree that the wall color should be lighter; I would suggest an off-white. Instead of the group of tiny photographs (family photographs are better grouped together on a table if you must have them in a public space) I would find a large painting that you love and place it there instead. Instant impact! I would suggest curtains in a thicker material similar to the color of the walls, without a pattern. A sleek metal and glass coffee table (it can have two levels like yours) will enlarge the space and give the room a lighter, more edgy feel. Since you mentioned the word boring, I would say your lamps belong in that category. I'm afraid your rug reads as very casual/beachy, and I think you can find something prettier and more suitable for a living room. You also want the rug to be at least large enough to place the front legs of your seating furniture on it. Your chairs look comfortable, but three of them in this not very large room are rather overpowering. I would find smaller versions for at least two, or have only two in the room unless you need all of them for seating. I imagine all this is a bit more than you envisioned, but you can select what seems workable for you, if anything....See MoreFurniture placement for entry/formal living and dining room
Comments (6)Near the entry door I like to have a bench to sit on when putting on/taking off shoes. Also a console table with mirror above it. So think of creating three zones - entry zone, sitting area, and dining area, while leaving at least 36” of walkway along the side of the room. I agree that the chandelier will probably need to be moved over to be centered under the dining table, and perhaps it could be replaced with one that is more of a focal point since the room seems to be lacking one....See MoreHelp! Furniture placement in a strangely shaped living and dining room
Comments (15)It's easy to become attached to furniture. They probably have many great memories of family dinners and holidays around the table. However, a round table, maybe with leaves, would probably fit that space better. Logically, the dining area should be near the kitchen, and the hutch should be in the dining area. But the hutch will look odd next to the fireplace (as noted above). As hard as it may be, they should get rid of the hutch and get a round table. The reality we all face, is that moving means letting go. If they do that, then they can buy new rugs and furniture, for which you've received good suggestions....See MoreSonya Oden
