Would wicker look good on my porch?
Comments (13)Thanks cyn - the porch is 7ft deep. We gain a little space by having no railing (it's only 18" high except at the end where we did need to put a railing). I don't know that we could have put a coffee table in front of a LS though. Might have to put things on angles. I just don't want chairs lined up along the wall like Cracker Barrel! I would love to have a deep porch/sunroom like NHB and natal. Silly me, 7ft seemed huge on paper (with no experience to go by). There is one house in neighboring town I absoultely love - wide front porch with stone walls/planting beds and stone steps in front going down to front lawn with a pond. I think I love it so much b/c the porch is so big and has so much furniture you can tell it's made for entertaining. But extending the porch or stairs on ours would mean pulling out stonework and plants - not sure I'm up to that since we've spent the past 2 years putting them in. Our porch is just for us sitting out with coffee watching the birds in AM (though it's west), sitting and shucking corn in summer evenings, etc. Maybe we can build a big screened porch/sunroom out back instead of a deck off the FR/kitchen. But that's another post/another project. I'll just have to keep looking for front porch furniture - any idea on size/depth/arrangement of furniture to avoid the "Cracker Barrel" look? NHB - I love both your houses, you have done an awesome job designing and decorating. What did you ever decide to do with curtains in your DR?...See MoreWould this look good on my porch?
Comments (18)Thank you everyone for giving me your "votes" on color and for all the nice things you said about the house. It's a simple southern look but one I've wanted for years and finally got to build :-) Squirrel and oceanna, thank you SO much for the visuals. As usual a picture is so much better than my imagination! Squirrel, I'd never even considered a color, but I will look in person and see what's out there. I do like the darker look I think so maybe a rubbed black or something like you suggested with a mossy green look. les, when I looked at the urns and planters at the nursery I was thinking I needed something pretty large. The urn style comes in a large size which I thought would help fill the space even more and give it some height. I do need width too, you're right. I guess I just need to make sure I don't go too small. Oceanna - I have that style with white lights for Christmas and I love it. The reason I am thinking fern is that my neighbor suggested they are easy to grow. The porch is 10' deep by the door so really gets no direct sunlight. I believe fern like shade? I'm SO not a gardener. For a while I was considering the topiary look like you pictured but if I did that I would have to go artificial I think. brutuses - I suggested the hanging ferns and DH nixed that idea, said he doesn't like the look. He doesn't say much so I'm ok with not doing it. Great idea though!...See MoreWhat chandelier would look good over my stairs/catwalk?
Comments (10)Hard to tell from the photo, but it seems to me the hallway/stairwell is fairly narrow. Instead of a chandelier which might overpower the space, think about putting larger wall sconces at the top of the landing and near the bottom of the stairs....See MoreLooking for a rug that would be a good fit to this painting
Comments (3)try posting your floor pic again and pics of your furniture for suggestions for rugs. It would have to coordinate with the furniture more than with the painting, although am presuming you prefer those colors....See MoreAC LB
