Furniture Design Dilemma living room

living room layout help!

I have a hard living room space that I haven’t ever been able to figure out how to layout. The first picture is how we currently have it. The second two- with couches facing each other, is what we are thinking about doing... or the last one, we thought about a sectional in that layout.

We have 3 living rooms- one formal, without a tv, one as a kids room- and then this one.. a happy in between
We are replacing all of this furniture so we are looking for ideas on what to replace it with... but need the layout figured out first.
The tv can’t be moved.

There is a large 10’x4’ awkward space to the left of the stairs (currently behind one of the couches). So we thought if we had couches facing each other, it’d open that space up.

Would like to see a pic of the stairwell area shot from the sliding door. Why can't the TV be moved? That would be a key issue to arranging things better. How about a rough floor plan with measurements (openings included?) Delete your duplicate thread or it will get confusing.

It’s a poorly designed space that probably was not intended to be a TV room. Due to the stairs, the slider, the angled wall with the fireplace, and the hall, the flow prevents any volume seating arrangement. A loveseat and an accent chair would be doable.

Show pictures of the room, with atleast 3 walls where furniture will be placed. I would also strongly advice to not use sectionals not just for aesthetics but for function as well; its easier to move around a loveseat and armchair than a sectional (L shaped) and there will be many more layouts to choose from.

If you rotate the coffee table 90 degrees and move the opposing sofas close to the coffee table, then you might have room behind one of them for the chairs to face each other with that side table in between them.

What a nice big space, huge windows and congratulations on the wood floor! Number 1 on my list of what not to do is to start ripping out walls. Live there for a while first and you may like it as-is. You have said you have almost no furniture but you want to have a tv and an electric fireplace here. What needs do you have? How many people will live here and will need seating on a regular basis? Do you have small children? Do you entertain? What’s your style - casual, traditional, boho, formal, etc?

These are old pictures from right after we re-did the floor. The tv is too big to go on the side wall and my husband is not going to get rid of it... that wall behind the couch is 10ft and the wall in between the fireplace and hallway is 6ft. The wall with the sliding door is 7.5ft. I don’t know how long the wall is with the window on it. I’m guessing around 13-14ft. I’m traveling so I only have the couple measurements now.

And there are too many pipes/electrical in that side wall so we can’t mount a tv there.

How many need to be seated for TV on a daily basis? How big is the TV (not viewing size, but physical inches wide and high?) I think a grouping of four swivel chairs (one of them can recline for Mr.) would work and the TV could go under the railing at the stair end of the room. Changing the top railing to a pony wall and pre-wiring it for the TV might be a future project worth looking into if he ever wants an even bigger TV. Here's a mini version of what you could do with that railing wall.

Do some measuring on the wall under the railing. TV may work there.

Are there 2 sliders in the room? One next to the fireplace and one on the wall opposite the fireplace?

Maybe an L corner sofa, larger rug , rotated the other way so that the corner of the rug isn’t pointing to the fireplace , some ornaments would look cute either side of fireplace and might add symmetry if you can’t put an L sofa, could you do just 1 larger piece, with optional arm chairs with legs that are not part of a set? So it’s not over crowded and too matchy
